Neighborhood Watch
Hi, I apologize if there has been a thread about this before (I'm sure there has), but I'm getting ready to do another run through of episode 2 since I just finished episode 1 this afternoon.
http://steamcommunity.com/id/MUGARO/stats/HL2:EP2 My last run through I got 332/333 of the grubs. I saw a thread here recently about grub guides so I'm going to use that and I'm pretty confident I can squash the grubs this time. But I haven't found anything decent for a guide on neighborhood watch. Game FAQs has 2 guides, one decent guide that only details where the striders come from and if they walk fast or slow. No matter how fast I tried I could never get to the second strider before he blew up the lumber mill. I also lost the water tower to one of the fast striders. Any experts could give me some good detailed info on how they got it? I did get the 20 of the 22 without any help though. And I remember my last play through I got little rocket man and then there was a thread discussing it and the easiest way to do it. Suffice to say, I did not get little rocket man the easy way. You can't get achievements by cheating can you? At any rate, no I don't want to cheat.

Yeah, don't bother yourself cheating, or you'll never feel good about it. Besides, that's what the achievements are there for anyway.
When you do the grubs, the primary grub which gets over looked is the only grub which you cannot actually see, and it is behind a grub inside of one of (I think) the first "cache" that you find. It is actually back in the tunnel, and you will likely need to throw a grenade into the cache to even get it since you can't sight it with your pistol. As for neighborhood watch, you just have to reload until you get good enough to take every hunter out with the car. It can be really hard on low end comps like mine. |

Just keep at it. Save each time you save a house. It's all about timing and precision. There's no real secret trick about it. I'd suggest getting as close to the area where it arrives as possible before it does arrive, giving you the best opportunity possible to get a shot at him and saving right before as well, so you don't have to repeat the whole thing.

Extremely simple. Just stay at the sawmill area. The first strider will always come towards you and around away towards the rocket base. Go and take care of the hunters before this strider makes it to the sawmill. Then kill it, then as soon as you kill it grab another mag device and save (F6), facing the water tower. Now head towards it so you are in position to launch as it comes in. If you miss just reload (F9) and retry. I did a "guide" map (map as in "roadmap", not game map lol") a while back, have it on disk somewehre. i will try to find it and post it on.

If you wait at the saw mill the first strider will come right to you without destroying any buildings? I didn't know that.

Hmm. I'm pretty sure that the strider which runs at the sawmill will destroy it. You just have to get really good at hitting it with the mag.

Yep, only 3 striders of the whole strider battle are scripted to destroy buildings. All others simply stroll towards the base. I studied this (by using cheats and another time no cheats. They all do come scripted in about 3 waves.
First one ALWAYS spawns at the crane coming towards sawmill, then another from the watertower (this one scripted to destroy the sawmill so be quick). Found the pic I was talking about: http://www.users.on.net/~ozgeek/striderbattleplan.jpg |

Like everyone says, save points. What helped me was the rapid 'dum dum dum' of a strider moving in to destroy one of the houses. Follow the noise as fast as you can, try to stay near the spawn points as much as possible. As for the hunters, just run them down dont bother shooting them, this will give you more time and less hassle when it comes to magnuson'n a strider.

yeah there's so much debris all over the place. use them against the hunters. Normal weapons takes long time to kill (except the AR2 alt or rockets or the smg grenades). For a faster kill, grab something and let the hunter shoot at it (while you holding it with the grav gun), then launch it back at them.
