Arrow Hat Obsession: A Virtual Disease

At some point, VALVe decided to add in hats.

At some point, the community lost their sanity.

At some point, people need to realize what they're obsessing over.

I'll let you in on what it is...

A VIRTUAL IN GAME COSMETIC ITEM "AKA" A HAT

Just let it go guys, seriously, the amount of ranting, complaints, and overall drama over hats that do nothing is beyond dumb, way beyond dumb.

Now the latest rant is people whining over getting a hat for preordering Left 4 Dead 2. Notice that most of the people aren't complaining that they won't be getting the hat, but that they already went and spent 45$ on a game just to get one. That they were forced to spend 45$ because they cannot miss out on an in game item.

You don't have to have every hat.

This is a game.

Put that into perspective, and hats will become meaningless.

Agreed.

Ideally, would be nice to go back to vanilla TF2 and kidnapping the guy who was going to think about the hat idea. Sort of Terminator 2-ish : >

Don't forget that the $45 price tag is with the 10% off you get for pre-ordering the game. After the 12th, it will go back up to $49.

I enjoy both TF2 and Left 4 Dead. So this is a double deal for me, I get a cool game/demo and a hat.

But like you said OP, people are SOOOOO obsessed with some stupid item, they are willing to pay $45... not for the game, but for the hat. It's among these same people where they broke the rules and used a third party program, just to get these hats. They lost the opportunity to get a not so rare hat, but a very common Halo. Ironically, how common is this hat, they do not have it. So inside themselves, they know their hat collections isn't going to reach 100% and that feeling itches within them so much, they'll try to make that into something so bad, it feels good within their little world of not having that common hat that they don't have.

But you know, two years ago, Valve released a awesome squeal to a Half Life Mod class, Team Fortress 2. Back there, there was no "updates" or "Meet the class" movies. There was no special weapons or hats. It was a same game that I spend $49 because I wanted to play the game. Did I spend that money thinking I'll get a special hat in the future? No.

But somehow, people has grown to the point where the game that we know 2 years ago, still isn't "Finished" and expect Valve to meet our expectations. As if our "money" wasn't worth the TF2 of today... phff... like you knew there were going to be hats in the games when you started playing a game you were content with, over a year ago.

At this point I would really like a "no hats" toggle in the advanced options. I don't want to look at your beret, your halol, or your ugly bald soldier/engie.

Wouldn't be a bad idea for those looking to be unaffected by this plague.
