Question Unable to connect to steam network

Received
Steam - Error: Could not connect to Steam network.
This could be due to a problem with your Internet connection, or with the Steam network. Please visit www.steampowered.com for more info.

I looked around and during the time I ran into this problem it seemed no1 else was. I logged in just fine with my other computer via the same account and log in. my internet did not change at all and am able to access everything other than steam.

I've downloaded the steam app and tried repairing several times and after it updates and attempted to log in...I get this error.

It doesn't even prompt me with the "work offline" message.

I can log in right now on my other computer. just not this one ever since I updated. what do I do?

What sort of programs are you running in the background on the computer? Also, have you started off by having a read over this FAQ?

Consulted FAQ.
Same indications received.

Programs running in background consist of normal windows processes, mcafee.

Try disabling McAfee, it has been known to interfere with Steam.

I have the same problem, I can run steam on my craptop-laptop but for some reason not on my PC (it had been working for 6 years without any trouble).

I was having the same problem yesterday, some people fixed it by deleting the 2 .blob files in their steam folder (AppUpdateStats.blob and clientregistry.blob), other people (including me) managed to fix it by deleting the winui.gcf file in their steamapps folder.
After you do either steam will redownload the file (just like it does with an update) and either work or keep doing the same damn thing.
