Option to remove total played from community profile

I'm fine with the last two weeks being recorded but I do not want the total amount to be posted on the profile and I do not want to set my profile to private, so don't be a jerk and tell me to do that. All that is needed is an option to turn off this feature from your own page. I think this is getting less respectful privacy and if things like these cannot be turned off it will affect how look on Steam in the future.

And as usual haters gonna hate, stalkers gonna stalk, flamers gonna flame and fanbois gonna protect their poor, helpless but infallible master, but this thread is not for you. Thank you.

Because not everyone likes the idea of this kind of information to be up for grabs publicly.

Turning a profile completely private is one solution of course, but it would indeed be a lot better if the steam users had more control in what they show to the public, what to friends and what they want to keep private completely.

Yeah but... what can people do with that information?

Let's say you've had a rough weekend and played really alot but still, got loads of friends who also got steam and they see your total play time for 2 weeks and sees like 150-200 hours ( I just made up a number don't critizie :P ), Ofcourse you would get humiliated ( by getting called "omg geek!" Even if your friend would just do it for a friendly laugh ) that's why a small lie isn't bad sometimes ( i.e you lie to your parents how long you've played while they we're gone ) and turning the total playtime to be avaible to show or not would be great really

I don't see why it needs to be questioned, it's a very simple request that would take only take a few hours to implement and only if you're taking it slow. A lunch break would be more like it.

All big communities on the Internet allow you to customize what you want to show and what you want to be private. I would rather ask why I would want other people to see my total play time for all Steam games in the first place rather than "why not". The answer is that I see no reason for that I'd much rather turn it off.

Hear hear.

I love the Steam community feature, and it's undoubtedly led me to choose Steam over other DD sites when price wasn't an issue, but I'm not wild about the binary choice of everything hidden/everything public. I guess recently-played games, and the games list itself, create a discussion piece with friends and so on, but like stereophonical said, this is a kind of a quizzical idea in the first place.

Judging or complaining about how one spends his or her time. Asking silly questions. Making judgements based on games played for how many hours etc. Sending friend invites to ask why someone plays a game so much. Do I need to go on?

The fact remains that some people would prefer to be in control of what they show on their Steam community page and I'm not just talking about this new update. Not just an on/off switch for all the info at once, but like most community systems a much more specific system which lets us tailor it to our wishes. All information given can be used in some way or another, but let us at least be in control of what we hand out and what not.

I understand your point, but it's very helpful for a quick glance of who you're playing with. For instance I tried playing L4D with every type of person (when friends aren't online) but it gets frustrating when they don't know the basics. So, you can filter out anyone with less than 50 hours total, without having to go into detail on their stats page.

At the same time, I'd love customizable content. It says my total CSS play time is 170 hours. But I've owned it for 2 years and played for at least 1000 hours. So it isn't accurate for older games.

Also, why not just give out another profile with a similar name and almost no hours played, if you're worried about someone seeing your total playtime who isn't a gaming friend?

I don't care about game time, but I would like more options on what can and cannot be seen. I have like 120 steam games, I don't want non-friends to see that and make my account a target. I realize by hiding my games it would make me a target nonetheless, but still! lol.

Bump for support, I'd like to have the option to disable hours logged as well. Would be nice to be able to reset as well.
