Mouse wheel issues... REALLY annoying.

Alright folks..

Ive been using my Logitech MX518 for a few years now, still in good condition, clean etc.

Within the last 3 days my mouse wheel has been acting up.

It sometimes randomly scrolls up and down webpages, explorer windows endlessly then will stop. Also the mouse wheel stops scrolling up and down at all. I am still able to click down and move the mouse to scroll so it is still working. I have to unplug the lead and connect it again for it to work for - a unknown - amount of time, It can work fine for hours on end or do it soon as I turn the PC on.

nothings changed with the PC or the hardware/software.

Ive tried different USB ports, USB 1 and 2.0.
Mouse is clean
Installed Software/Remove software for the mouse
No spyware/junk on PC (formated a week ago also.. worked fine then)

Intel Core2 E6550 2.33Ghz
2GB DDR2
500GB SATA
GeForce 210
Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

Everythings updated, Ive googled but it comes back with a load of crap not relating to my issues.

Thanks

Sounds like a bad wire connection somewhere.
When u unplug it and plug it back in it probably completes the connection sumwhere in the wire... and after 3 years of use the cables on those mice tend to get flimsy and fall apart...
I used to have this mouse and it lasted me 2 years and i had the same prob. I happen to work at a cabling company so the girls were able to find the bad part of the cable and fix it...

Well thats what I dont get, the mouse works perfectly fine.. and the mouse wheel is still responsive as I can click and scroll. Ive just installed the SetPoint software/driver so I have changed it from OS controll to Setpoint,

Lets see if that helps lol!

Update - Nope didnt work.. still randomly scrolls up and down.. getting really annoying now.

Anyone else with input?

See if Logitech will replace it if it's still under warranty.

Try unplugging your keyboard and only using the mouse, as a test. It's possible you have a key sticking like an arrow key or page up/down key. I've seen issues like this before. Sometimes they're really odd and sometimes they're easy. But unplugging the KB will tell us if it's solely a mouse issue or not.
