retail -> steam?

will a retail copy register on steam? I got a friend who can provide me one for cheap and I'd like to have it on Steam, even if it's the piece of ♥♥♥♥ it is.

I noticed that the back of the box mentions Steam when I saw it at the store. I am going to guess that it does activate via Steam although everyone seems to warn us to stay away from this title.

When you put in the retail disk it asks if you want the full "online" version or the offline single player only version. The full "online" version requires Steam.

yes it does. I bought a copy over Ebay for $7 and it tied to my steam account

it can be registered thought steam , i bought retail copy today and activated it sucessfully!

Hey Mephistox I sure would like to try out the multiplayer for this game to but theres never anyone there to play so it would be nice to get some multiplayer going!!
