Thanks, wish I had read this before....... I would've gotten the special edition, especially with the face-hugger and 4/11 maps.

Game Crashing @ launch FIX

The 5 STEP Process to a Successful Game Launch in Aliens vs. Predator

Hello this is how you go about getting in a game without your System "Crashing"

1. First you launch the game in DX 9 mode

2. Wait in lobby ( you are now in DX 9 mode )

3. Wait for Host to invite from Steam

4 Hit ( Shift Tab to accept Steam Invite )

5.Game Launches No Problems and Running in DX 9

This is for everyone that does not have DX 11 capability.

Note: this fixes the Nvidia video cards Darkness issue.

Also fixes ATI "Loading Crash"

Have a fragalistic See Yah in Game AvP Woot!

too bad people will just rage towards the game cause their rig wont run the DX11 stuff

oh well

Wait, so you can only get the game to not crash by having someone else invite you to a lobby?

<- still don't have the game yet myself.

Sidewinder003, you do realize that this was the second time you posted that in here?

I'd like to add to this information consolidation thread that the game's graphics freeze and studder during gameplay.

Still waiting on acknowledgment from Rebellion/SEGA/STEAM etc...

I'm not going to start listing technical issues here as Freyar is handling that stuff in his/her FAQ thread.

I'd be pretty surprised if Rebellion haven't been working on a fix for 2 days already...they're probably too busy working on patches to be posting announcements.

No Sound FIX

Start a Campaign Game, perfect sound during the opening Cutscene. The game starts at the tutorial part and I get no sound again.

Then this might work for you:

Yersterday i downloaded directx from the windows support page, reinstalled nothing happened... know i took the dxsetup.exe from the avp folder which you find here: SteamApps/common/alien vs predator/redist/directx

Original poster here; I can confirm that this worked for me. I now have in-game (so far) and menu sound after re-installing direct-x from the setup file found IN THE AVP DIRECTORY ON MY HARD DRIVE. Still no sound in the Fox logo, but I really don't care about that as long as the rest of the game is working.

Can't guarantee it will work for everyone else, but it's worth giving it a try. Thanks Ramrod.

Updated the controls and weapon descriptions on the top post, now that I've played the game! Should be useful to the people who don't have a manual.

And yeah, I'm just not going to get into listing technical issues. The thread was originally to stick pre-release rumours and information. I'm trying to evolve it into something that's still useful, but tech issues really need their own thread. Spam Freyar's FAQ thread with your fixes instead!

you do have an error in your FAQs though:

Surface transition
Middle-mouse to transition to another surface
Turn Auto-transition On to be able to free-run on all surfaces. Turning it off requires pressing the transition button to leap between ceiling and floor, and makes walls unclimbable.

This is very much wrong.

All auto transition does is make it so that it is as if you are always holding the middle mouse button in. In this mode, pressing middle mouse button will un-stick you from the surface you are on (unless of course it is a horizontal surface and you are upright ontop of it).

Having auto transition off however means you have to HOLD middle mouse button to transition, so wall climbing is still very doable and in fact pressing middle mouse button does NOT warp you to the ceiling, only the jump key does that (space bar). Letting go of middle mouse button does not unstick you if you were holding it, but letting it go and pressing it again still unsticks you just as like with auto transition...
