Any way to use the amazing PS1 soundtrack on Steam versions of Doom?
I'm considering the ID pack but the original PC music was meh.. The PS1 versions of Doom and Final Doom on the other hand had amazingly creepy ambient soundtracks. They gave the game an entirely different feel...I'd love to have those tunes integrated into the Steam version of the games. Is it possible?

http://doomdepot.doom2.net/doommisc.html#mwads
You can download the music there, but you'll need to use ZDoom instead of DosBox. Maybe a front end like ZDL for ZDoom as well to make loading wads outside of the main iwads easier. |

Thanks...Do you know any "for dummies" guides out there for getting this stuff to work smoothly with all the Doom games? Seems complicated..

For ZDoom, all you need to do is unpack it somewhere, then find the doom.wad file in your Doom folder, copy and paste it in the ZD folder, then you can just run ZDoom and it'll do the work, same goes for any Doom engine games (Doom 2, Final Doom, Heretic, Hexen and Strife, albeit the latter isn't a iD Software game).
The wad file should be in (steam folder here)\steamapps\common\ultimate doom\base. As for ZDL, well, it's been a long time since I've used it, but it was rather user friendly if I remember. http://zdoom.org/wiki/ZDL Here's the wiki page on ZDL, it doesn't really tell you how to set it up, but it's rather easy, to use external mods/wads, you need to add them to the external files (so that's where you want your music). To add source ports and iwads, click on ZDL and then Option, then have it point to the ZDoom executable in the source port section and to the .wad files in the iwad section. That's all you really need to know to set it up. I'm not entirely sure if the music will work fine as I haven't tried it, it should tho. |

Thanks for the tip!
I too think that the PSX music adds a lot to the game. |

I'm gonna try this. It's better than getting the PSX games off Amazon because I don't have to spend any money and start the game all over again. I've already got both Doom and Doom II on my PC and 360 (Doom II just came out in XBLA last week); I don't need the same game on a third platform (plus, on 360 I get achievements).

And of course, Doom Depot is down. It's always something.
