HoMM 3 fan here.
1 was ok for a bit. 2 was interesting, 3 was the game that I used to play a LOT however. I got some cash from Christmas and now I'm wondering what to spend it on. I probably won't be buying any new games until Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean the Last Hope come out and end up on sale (lots of companies have been running sales lately) so I'm thinking I'm guarenteed to pick up this game, but I'm not sure how badly i'll need the expansions. I know that I never finished all the expansions when I got HoMM3 Compelte becuase there was just too much.
Plus I love PC gaming, but I've been forcing myself to go back through my backlog (bought a bunch of games real cheap on steam) and I'm trying to finish up some old games that were kinda piled up. Example Tales of Monkey Island etc... I'm running windows 7, 512MB VRam with a GT 6800 OC vid card running on PCIEx x16 and a quad core phenom that's going about 5.0Ghz so I'm not worried about requirements. What do you guys think? Buy it and then get the expansion packs on the next time they are on sale to get me back into the game? Or risk buying 15-20 dollars on the game and hope my Gaming ADHD doesn't kick in? Anyway thanks in advance for any and all input towards helping me with this. |

I don't have HoMMV but a friend who is a big fan of the series bought it and he quite liked it. I bought 'Kings Bounty - Legend' though and I am fairly you would like that one too.

First I should say HoMMV is great, like 3 was but updated and nicer.
I got the expansions and they're good, though the original game is fine and long enough. On the other hand, having played these games before, you know how addictive they are and before long you might find yourself wanting more. I'd say get them, they're not that much more expensive and I doubt you'll regret it |

You should definitely be picking up the King's Bounty Pack (Legend + Armored Princess) if you are a HOMM 3 fan. HOMM 5 is great too, but King's Bounty's battles remind me more of HOMM 3, and I personally think it is a bit more polished as a game than HOMM 5.

I posted a reply earlier
but for it didn't go through for some reason. I ended up buying it for the 5 dollars and then I hoped that Torchlight would go back on sale, and it did, so I bought that. Now my entertainment budget no longer exists for... an undetermined amount of time lol.
Anyway I'm glad I only bought the one title. I'm 72 hours into it and I'm only half way through the campaign. The warlock stuff is kinda crazy. I have to rethink my entire strategy. Great game though I love it I'm probably going to have a lot more money by the time I finish the game. there's so much content here. |

and I LOVED Heroes 5. Yes, they look way too cartoonish. yes, i miss the multi-race castles too. yes, the artifacts are few and most of them suck. yes, the story is BS and is nothing compared to the absolutely epic Heroes 3 story. yes, too few skirmish maps. yes, the interface sucks a bit. BUT the game is a bit more balanced, for instance Inferno castle finally can kick some ♥♥♥ ![]() the skill tree design is more complex and therefore more interesting than in H3. the last expansion brought 2 upgrade options for each unit, which to my mind is a brilliant idea which makes you think about the types of armies you want to build. and the main improvement - combat. its just way more complex and interesting: -the spells are plentiful and awesome. has more schools of magic -ALL units have abilities. there isn't one single useless unit, which leads to using way more tactics in battles -the hero can attack, but does no take direct part in battle -speed and initiative are different stats which makes the combat more dynamic because some creatures have more turns than others final thought? definitely pick it up. just for the combat. everything else is a bit worse than in H3 and overall the game isnt as good as the 3d one. but its definitely better than heroes4 which to my mind ruined the whole series. by the hands of NWC by the way, not any other developer |

HoMM5 has a terrible storyline, it's cartoony, and in general pretty childish compared to its far better predecessor, Heroes of Might and Magic 3.
edit: oh yeah, and the soundtrack is FAR worse as well. Heroes 3 had some of the best music this franchise has to offer. The music from Heroes 5 was pretty bland. |
