Did anyone figure out how to get mods to work?

I bought this game for some of my friends this holiday and I was hoping to get SBX to work. Obviously Patch Commander doesn't want to work and so far I haven't gotten the command line to work properly for it either. Does anyone have any tips/answers to getting an old mod to work for this? Any help would be great ^^;

Steam's dark forces exe is modified to include some sort of DRM/protection not present in the original exe file. =/
So i think it will not be possible to run mods that require modified exes.

Check out the JK Versions Tool, buttom of the page:
http://www.jkhub.net/project/show.ph...tion=downloads

Note, this is sort-of against the Steam TOS, since using an external exe technically allows you to launch the game outside of Steam, but you won't get in trouble for it.

now the question is, is there a way to get the dif .exe's to work?

they keep trying to go full screen during menus and that just blacks them out.

also, anyone had any luck with JKE running? i keep getting "Can't Load Level" whenever i try to play with it. and the JKLauncher won't even recognize it as a mod.

There's a thread about the CD music and JKE that does a good job explaining what needs to be done. You need an unofficial update (JKHub.net) and a JK.EXE that is version 1.00. I'm running JKE on an XP just fine (no JK launcher) and have done something similar with MotS.

care to point it out?
i got the mod to work but it still has issues since the menus come up black until i minimize and then fight to get it to stay maxed again.
and some of the movies go hippie trippy.
if its the one just below here it has no mention of getting the mods to work at all, just music dload and probably illegal at that.
i'd have an easier time if i dugup my old discs and tried them.

Not to dwell too much on the music part, but those links also have the patches to "downgrade" your EXE file to work with JKE and instructions to do it. In the end, if you have the original CDs, you could reinstall it that way to get JKE to work. Sorry, I'm not more helpful, I just followed the readme from the DL and everything worked fine. An added bonus was the movies were full screen again and on my XP ran perfectly.
