Arrow |2012 Thread Updated| Half-Life 2 Filip Victor'S Update Series.

HALF-LIFE 2 UPDATE 3.0

2012 Update | I'm pleased to announce that Origin PC and EVGA/NVidia in collaboration with Softpedia and Secure Online Desktop are sponsoring the next version, and as a result, new enhancements and improvements are now possible.

Promo video > http://bit.ly/RTcHW6

There has been a lot of hard work involved into this project so far, suggestions for the update are still welcome. Post in the comments below.

2013 Update:
>Updated to .vpk (steam pipe) format
>Fixed floating static objects
>Fixed models with "nodraw" texture
>Fixed improper reflection on glass materials
>Added additional world props, decals and subtle mapping modification that are present on Xbox 360 version (straight from the raw x360 .vmf file)
>Fixed NPC's and objects that fall through displacements on map spawn (very common bug in 2004& actual version)

> Full integration with the original game,no more play as a mod.
You will acces the update inside the original game instead of play as a mod option.

> Added LDR (Low Dynamic Range) and DirectX 8 support.
With this new lighting style based on the one used in 2004 you will be able to play on old and integrated video cards or that are not HDR capable.

> Added Volumetric Fog.
Volumetric fog offers truly great visuals and perfect light blending at a distance.

> Improved HDR lighting.
HDR lighting has been updated using the latest source engine version.

> Added light shafts.
Light shafts or "light rays" are most present around big windows and ceilings cracks.

> 2012|New state of the art lighting and shadow system.
The lights and shadows have been completely revamped using the latest version of source.

> Fixed bad geometry shadows.
> Fixed community reported bugs.
> Improved optimization in big outdoor areas.
> Improved source scripting and response system.

Note: HL2 Update 3 now benefits from two lighting systems, you can switch between them in the game Option - Video - Advanced > High Dynamic Range checkbox.

Stay tuned for Kotaku, Tom's Hardware and Softpedia reviews in the coming months.

New improvements might be released along the way, until the release date. For more news and information join the official steam group here.

If this is the real deal (I'll probably download it today) a million thanks to you, Filip!

EDIT: Watched the video and it definitely looks like everything was there (models, textures, hdr, particles, phong, etc..).

EDIT: Those dl links are slow as for me (2kbs a sec slow). Will you be uploading this to moddb or halflifefiles?

This would take the rest of my life to download at 10k/s, and part 2 won't even start for me. I'd greatly appreciate it if you uploaded it to another server. Or if someone else manages to download it, could you please put up a mirror?

All in all, thanks for the effort. It looks great in the video.

How did you do all the HDR stuff in the maps anyway. Were you able to somehow compile maps from the 360 version or did you just try to add all of it yourself?

I think I'll be waiting for Valve to release it in all its optimized, detail oriented, official glory.

He probably imported the maps himself since anything to do on the PC with the 360 version is not possible. Probably a lot of work too, if this is indeed the real thing.

I love the fact the comparison was side by side. The only thing I saw that I didn't like was the Vort lightening changed to balls of energy. Other than that real purdy!

Please include in the thread title that it's unofficial. I thought they'd finally done it.

Yeah, the title is very misleading. Many people might think it is the official update Gabe promised was coming.

Also, thanks for answering my questions Victor, but perhaps you should answer them here in the thread so that everyone gets to see the answers.

I'm watching the comparison video. Where did all of Alyx's facial expressions go?

That aurora in the last shot... was that in the 360 version?!?

Yeah I noticed Alyx's missing expressions too. Hopefully if it's like that in game he'll do some bug fixes. Other than that though it looks good.

Can anyone that actually has the 360 version do some more detail oriented comparisons and let us know if this stuff is spot on or different?

@ nightcabbage: What questions did he answer you?
Also, did you visit Valve a couple of months ago? I went there this summer.

The hell with the Vortigaunts? Other than that, if it gets put on a different site to download (Moddb for example), I'll bother to get it. Seems good. Liked the aurora. Doesn't fit in the game that much, but looks good :P
