mission loads to black screen

when starting the game everything seems to be in proper working order until it reaches the point of actually starting the mission and then all I get is a black screen with an occasional compass or gun/bullet meter, but everything else is black. Does anyone have any helpful hints on how to fix this? Thanks a bunch

I have the same problem too...
I have xp, a dual core processor, 2 gb ram and an ATI Radeon X1200 video card.
