I haven't tried MP yet, but this happens to me in SP. It ends up crashing the game, as well.

It's a bug. It happens at least once to everyone and occurs client-side so other players online might not hear it while you can (i.e. the guitar on Theater). There is no known fix but to exit and restart the round (a total game restart is not necessary). If in multiplayer, it will end when the round ends.

UPDATE:

Here's my question I posed to Ubisoft:

Greetings,

I have an issue with a sound loop in game. When playing terrorist hunt with some friends we have will be playing the game and when either an enemy NPC fires a certain weapon (I think an AK47, not sure though) it gets stuck in a sound loop. The game will continue to play the sound until the match is ended. Death in the match and respawn does not solve this problem.

I believe this to be a problem exclusive to the Steam version of this game since of my other 3 friends who I played this game with 2 of the 3 had this problem as well. They have the Steam version of this game as well. The other friend has the game on PC-DVD and has not experienced this problem when playing with us.

Here is the reply:

If you experience poor sound, choppy sound, no sound, or sound related error messages (like DirectSound or Dsound.dll) while playing your Ubi Soft Entertainment game, the first step is to please ensure you have the most recently updated and DirectX / DirectSound compatible sound card drivers from the sound card manufacturer.

To verify that you have the latest DirectSound drivers available for your sound card, contact the sound card manufacturer. If necessary, obtain and install the latest DirectSound drivers for your sound card. This is usually done by visiting the manufacturer's website, or contacting their technical support for help updating drivers. For more information on obtaining drivers, please search the Ubi Soft Solution Center at http://support.ubi.com for "update drivers”.

Once these drivers have been downloaded and installed, reinstall the version of DirectX that is installed on your system. To do this, from Windows, click on start then run, and type x:\directx\dxsetup (where x:\ is the letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive with the Ubi Soft Game CD in the drive.) If you have installed a newer version of DirectX than is on the Ubi Soft game CD, then you will need to reinstall DirectX from whichever source you last installed it. The latest version of DirectX can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/DirectX

My thoughts on this reply:

I thought this is bit absurd and not really helping. If one person out of a group of 4 was having the issue I understand can this. But 3 out or 4 people and all the problems are linked to STEAM??!!

I followed up with an update question / response to my initial question:

Jason,

My sound is integrated into my motherboard and I've reinstalled the drives that came with it on the manufacture's CD. I download the latest updates for it that get released from Microsoft via Window update which is roughly every 3 -4 months.

I run windows XP and my version of Direct X (9c) has been updated for quite some time. Since Microsoft doesn't support versions 10 or 11 for XP. Also, my friends are running different operating systems and machines then myself. One is running windows 7 and is running the STEAM version like me and is having sound issues. The other is running windows 7 but is running his off the disc and is NOT having sound issues.

I believe this is a issue unique to being a STEAM digital download. Are there any solutions for this other then updating drivers?

I'm still waiting for a reply. Will update again as soon as I hear something!

This is wrong on so many levels. The issue crops up on both retail and digital download versions of the game. Trust me, I have both.

Updating or changing your drivers won't rectify the issue as well. As I stated before, it is a commonly KNOWN issue.

The problem is EVERYONE suffers it at least once. Ubisoft has a terrible history of decent QA. Look at how the game is on the PS3 for proof of that.

Since we're on the topic of consoles, allow me to make mention that Rainbow Six Vegas for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 ALL suffer this exact same issue. It occurs client side. Only you will hear it so asking others if they can hear it is likely to produce a response of "No", at least in that time frame. The only way to rectify the issue is mentioned above.

I will remind you, this game came out in Q1 2008. It is now Q4 2009 (Fiscal Quarters, not actual dates) or Q1 2010 by some calendars. But that's not the fun part, here's the fun part: Rainbow Six Vegas came out in Q4 2006 and still suffers from the same issue 3¼ years later. I doubt Ubisoft is in any hurry to fix this.

UPDATE! EVEN MORE USELESS FEEDBACK!

Here's my response from tech support again:

To better serve you, we need two files that are in your system (Direct X and MS System Information). These files report all drivers for your sound and video card, as well as other vital information about your system that will help us in resolving your problem.

First, make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed on your system. Download the latest version of DirectX from http://www.microsoft.com/directx. After installing DirectX, follow these steps:

1. From Windows, click Start -> Run.
2. In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and click OK.
3. Once the DXDIAG file is open, click on the "save all information...” button.
4. Click the save button to save the file as a text file to your Desktop.
5. Click on Start -> Run.
6. In the Open box, type "msinfo32" (without the quotes) and click OK.
7. When the program comes up, click on File. Click on Save.
8. Click the "save" button to save the file as an .nfo file to your Desktop.
9. Click on the URL (web link) for your incident in this email.
10. Type in your ubi.com login name and password and click Login. Click on 'My Questions' to find your incident.
11. Click on the question you wish to update and click 'update question'.
12. Type a response in the "Results and/or Additional Information" section.
13. Click "browse" and find the "dxdiag.txt" you saved earlier and click Open.
14. Click on the "Add Additional Attachments" button to attach the MSINFO32 file.
15. Finally, click Update to complete the incident

Once received, we will examine your system info and get back to you as soon as we can with a possible solution to your problem.

I submitted the info as the tech asked. I even went to microsoft's website to double check, and as I already knew, my version of DirectX was up to snuff. I had version 9.0C. So let's where this rabit hole leads....

Also,

If it crops up on the retail version of the game, why has my friend not encoutered the issue? I played this game earlier this year on the 360 online and in single player mode and didn't have this problem at all. Yes there is a possibility that I got lucky and didn't encounter it. But this bug has cropped up EVERY SINGLE TIME without fail when I've played a game via my STEAM copy. He has yet to encounter it.

Now also, I had STEAM verify the copy of my game cache, and STEAM found one file in error and had to be re-downloaded. I haven't played the game since then due to being busy with TF2, WoW, and work, but since I paid money for this game, even if it was only $5, I want my money's worth dammit!

UPDATE! UBISOFT TECH SUPPORT CLOSES UNSOLVED TICKET!

Well after replying a few more times to the tech my trouble ticket was closed without the problem being fixed. Here is the following traffic:

Jason,

Here are the attachments you requested. If you need anything else please let me know.

*I gave him the attachments he requested.

According to your directx diagnostic report, the drivers that you are using for your video card are out of date. Please visit nvidia's website at http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us to download and install the latest drivers for your video card.

In addition, you will need to perform the following tests and standard maintenance:

Click your “Start” button, then “Run”.
Type: DXDiag
Click "Ok", Click “Display”.

Make sure DirectDraw, Direct3D, and AGP acceleration are enabled and run the tests. If they are not enabled, click the “Enable” button. If they will not enable, you need to contact your PC manufacturer to get these enabled. If any of the tests fail, there may be a problem with your video card.

Also, the drivers for your sound card are out of date, I would recommend that you download and install the latest drivers available for this card from your computer manufacturer’s website. If this does not resolve the problem, you may need to contact the computer manufacturer directly to download the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard and possibly for the BIOS. Please contact your system manufacturer for these two updates; as if they are not done correctly you can damage your system permanently.

*I followed his steps and updated my motherboard sound drivers and video card drivers, but not my BIOS. Here is my reply:

Jason,

I updated my Video card's drivers along with my motherboard's drivers. I ran the two tests and my system passed without issue. The problem still persists! I am not updating my motherboard BIOS drivers due to the fact that 1) If my system malfunctions I have no operating system disc to reformat with, and 2) R6V2 is the ONLY game I have this problem with. 3) My motherboard manual, along with most other motherboards, follow the policy of as long as it's working, DO NOT UPDATE!

I believe this to be a problem on Ubisoft's end. I am not the only person experience this issue. If you look on the self help tech support forums for this game hosted by ubisoft, you will see many other people struggling with this same problem. Most people disable sound of weapons firing in game to get rid of this annoyance.

Here is the main forum for the self help for this game:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/6381021386

Personally I find that disabling the sound of gunfire takes out all the fun during play for me, because I won't be able to hear where an enemy is, or the gunfire from where I'm being shot at. Let alone being droned out by a loud machine gun.

Also, here is the STEAM support / self help forums:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...play.php?f=384

You will notice that many people who have the retail version and the STEAM version have this same problem by looking at the forums.

Also, I wanted to know that while I appreciate having updated video card drivers now, how does my video card relate to my in game sound problems?

After this, my question was updated as "solved". Great job Ubisoft. You didn't solve my problem, and you have a useless tech support staff. Maybe if you fixed this in a patch you wouldn't have a community that hates you. From now on, I'm never buying a Ubisoft game again.

I called the tech support line and had to update my question again. I needed to reattach the Direct X Diagnostics and system info again. Will update again once a reply is received.

I was having sound issues myself after buying the game, I didnt have any sound at all. I went to control panel/ Sounds and Audio devices/ speaker settings/ advanced/ performance/ hardware acceleration and turned it down to standard acceleration.

After doing that i finally got the sound to work, hopefully this will help you all with your sound problems.

And I'll say again, this is a common bug. Weapons sometimes enter sound loops. It is annoying, yes, but unavoidable and it doesn't make them game unplayable. Admittedly, I hate it, but I also have extreme doubts it's going to be fixed. You're likely to see a patch for Bully before you see a new patch for this.

This is the kinda of I give up attitude that will end up resulting in a patch never getting released. If nobody reports the problem and only complains in forums that are trolled by trial and error fixes, then nothing will get fixed.

Although my end solution seems to be the same as before. Here is my final reply from Jason (Ubisoft Tech Support "Lead Specialist" according to the over the phone support folks, yes I called):

Thank you for reporting this issue. I have sent this along through the appropriate channels for processing. If this issue is resolved, the solution will appear on the support section of our website.

So what I'm seeing here is, that IF this problem was forwarded as Jason says and I'm not seen as an annoyed customer and other customers continue to do like I'm doing, hopefully enough pressure will force them to issue a patch to address the problem. Because after all, issuing a patch is a helluva lot cheaper then hiring more tech support people because your phone lines / inbox is busy / full of problems of this kind.

I'd recommend people with this problem and others go to Ubisoft's support site here:

http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...er/std_alp.php

and submit your issues. With any luck they will issue a patch. If not, at least you will learn a lesson, never buy a game without reading up on the bugs, and know if the company who makes cares enough to have half decent tech support.

Amazing:

I sent this to UBI::::::::

Before you start asking me to run more test, update driver, direct x..system info again....blah...blah...blah...

Do i sound fed up?...
Are your coders ever going to fix any of your games or do we need to file a class action suite for you selling games with known playability issues without disclosing to the end user.

This game has a sound loop bug, your team knows it's there! UBI has a history of known bugs that never got fixed and kept selling the broken titles without disclosure of known issues to the buyer. you guys just swept them under the rug. Your teams livelyhood depends on the gamers who purchase from you and your reputation is shot to hell, Rumors of you guys purchasing other game titles is luducris when you can't toss out the doe to make a hotfix for bugs in titles you already own.

It all goes back as far as anyone can see, sound loops, crash to desktop as far back as raven shield.

So my question is:

Are you going to fix the sound loop bug or sweep it under the rug like you do with every other title?
Are you going to disclose known issues to potential buyers?

I'm doing my homework,is your team doing theirs?

At least half life made a console command available to stop sound loops, can you at the very least make that an option?

Food for thought.
Would you buy new car if the dealer told you the engine may stall without notice?

That's why they have lemon laws.

I would attach a screenshot but you wouldn't like it.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

not much else to say, you will always get the same answer from them so ya might as well tell them how ya really feel.

Plain and simple, I said i would never buy another UBI title again but then i bought this pile of junk coding, Maybe they should have built it on LUA engine.Good thing i'm only out the cost of 2 mint mocha frapps!

I just recognize that Ubisoft and the word support do not belong in the same statement, that's all
