Is it possible to download and play a different game at the same time?
Hey,
I'm currently downloading BioShock (thanks Steam for the great 'buy BioShock 2 get Bioshock 1 free' deal!) but I'd like to play Mass Effect 2 whilst it's downloading... I've tried running the .exe file in the common/mass effect 2 folder, but it still loads through Steam. Is there ANY way to play one game and download another through Steam at the same time? Cheers! |

I think there is a way. Try running Mass Effect 2 in a window and see if Bioshock continues to download. Running a window helps see if the download is working.
I tried it, and it works. Last edited by The_Thing: 02-07-2010 at 07:29 AM. |

Yeah it still downloads mate, I run it in a window anyway. Tried running it from the launcher, and directly from the .exe and it stops downloading the moment you load your save file.

So you're saying it works?
I ran HL2:EP1 in a window and after the menu appeared, the download was continuing anyway. It might take longer, but it works. |

I heard somewhere on the forums that if you stop the download before you start the game, and then when the game is running, minimize and start the download manually again, it should work.
Personally I had different experience with different games. Sometimes it keeps downloading even though I am playing a game. My most recent example probably being that AVP demo kept downloading even though I was playing BFBC2 beta. |
