Yes i got the same, only way to get it to work was by launching the game directly with the Bioshock2Launcher.exe in the "steamapps\common\bioshock 2\SP\Builds\Binaries" folder instead of starting the game in steam. :/

Hi all,

I came looking for some help with the same problem - although the following (from this page) has sorted me out:

Just to be clear I have retail version, and it happened to me. Anyway, here is solution I found.

Delete everything in here.
C:\Users\*Username*\Documents\Bioshock2

Or whatever folder you have saves in.
Admittedly I had only progressed about 5 minutes into the game, so deleting my saves wasn't an issue; you might want to back up the folder before making any changes. As always, YMMV.

Cheers,

Adi

you have to go into the documents folder and delete your save games, your main save becomes corrupted and causes this. Temp work around is to go in now and then and copy your saves into a seperate folder, and when you get the bug again delete the corrupted and restore your backup saves. not perfect but will save you from totally restarting.

Also far as I can tell there is no one thing that causes the corruption, I can go 20 minutes or 10 before getting hit with it again. Poor quality control for a major title.

I'm having the exact same problem. I bought it on Steam. I've tried verifying the game cache, deleting everything in the Bioshock 2 folder and redownloading, everything. I know it's a problem with Games for Windows Live because everything is perfectly normal until I have to log in to Windows Live (for singleplayer, mind you. D: )

Same ing issue, I can login fine but as soon as I press single player, it crashes - no matter if I am logged in to my online or offline profile. I delete everything, reinstalled, using offline profile, patching.

NOTHING WORKS.

Try this:
  • Uninstall GFWL.
  • Download it from the web (do a Google search and get the correct version for your OS from M$).
  • Install GFWL from the download.
  • Run GFWL and sign in (do not check any boxes for saving log in info or automatic log in).

Now run Bioshock. It will then open the GFWL sign in over the Bioshock 2 Menu (I know, you should be already logged in on the free standing version of GFWL - just do it). Log into GFWL. Again, do not check any boxes.

It can take time to log in. Let it go for a few minutes if needed.

You may get an error about 'something has changed' but just click OK.

Now click Single Player in the Bioshock 2 menu and see if you can Play, Save games and Load games.

This worked for me on Win7. Use the same log in info for both the desktop GFWL and the in-game GFWL.

After this first time I no longer need to run the desktop GFWL before running Bioshock 2. I always get the error and it takes about 30 seconds to log in but it works.

Hope that helps. Please reply back if it does.
