Connecting to the BBS
Just wondering.
If I have a modem for my DSL and I'm on wireless, can I still connect to the BBS? Do I need a PCI modem and connect that to a phone line? |

if you use this, remember to increase the scroll back or it will delete the beginning of the connection |

Its the kind of modem you connect to the router via Ethernet, that's connected to the PC via Ethernet, the modem is connected to the phone line, and I'm connected to the router. Would that still work, or does it have to be connected to my computer? I only have one phone line, so while connecting a modem card to my PC is no problem, connecting the phone line is.

Not trying to troll, serious question:
Is it likely that you're going to figure new stuff out by visiting the BBS? Because the connection slows when too many people are on it, and we should let the technophiles have easy access so we can get more clues. I'm personally not knowledgeable about all this BBS/SSTV/etc stuff, so I haven't visited the BBS at all

I just want to visit it and take a look and get off. Not get on stay on for hours and tell all my friends to get on.
One thing is seeing the pictures, and another is actually visiting. |

Me as well.
I downloaded Putty, and I've found the phone number, but I don't have a clue how to use them/dial the number. And the Putty read-me doesn't make a lick of sense... All it describes is how to submit bugs. |

Yes, thank you. +rep
So, it may be possible to do this without a phone line? Or am I just confused, being that there are programs that do this kind of thing? In addition, after reading a bit of the guide you provided, it says you need either a host name or IP address, but all that has been given (that I know of) is the phone number... (425) 822-5251. But what do you do with the phone number to connect, and what kind of host name/IP address do I need? Sorry, I'm just very confused. This is all new to me. |

That 'circular plug' is most likely your coaxial connection for your cable internet, in which case no, you would not be able to access the BBC. To access it, you need to have a modem that connects to a land line (aka your home telephone line). They make horrible dial-up screeching noises when used if you've ever heard that (similar to when you call a number designated for a fax machine).
