I don't know about you guys, but I'm almost more excited to see what engine will be used for Portal 2 than the actual story.
I'm betting on a modified version of the Source engine and if this is the case, I hope the SDK will be released, I'd really love to map with some more up to date textures and software. What do you guys think?

Probably the same which was used for L4D2, maybe with a few more features.
The ingame shot from GI looked pretty much the same as Portal 1. |

I hope the L4D2 engine or even the L4D engine will be used for Portal 2... mostly because those two engines run alot smoother than the source2007 version.

Portal 2 will use the Orange Box engine or a slightly modified version if Valve continues to follow it's trend which it almost always does.
Also, there is no Left 4 Dead 2 engine your ignorance is showing. Left 4 Dead 2 uses the orange box engine. |

If you look at the shadow cast by the weighted storage cube in the press images it's pretty clear they're using the same 'stencil' shadows as before. So no improvements on the lighting front, at least... I'm not expecting graphical wonders, but then again Portal doesn't NEED incredible graphics to be an incredible game! We can hope for richer environments though... Portal lacked in the detail department to say the least.

Maybe Valve test a new Overhaul engine .
Wikipedia says that the new engine will use the climate change. And perhaps in portal 2 some level change from forest to snow (?) |
