Crash to Desktop on Start-up at SC2 title screen

Hi all,

Is anyone else getting the following problem:

The game crashes back to desktop once it reaches the supreme commander load title screen after all the sponsor ads at the beginning even in windowed mode.

My copy has been checked and I copied it to my desktop so as to not re-download it and it works fine there.

Now I have no clue where the issue is I have all the latest drivers for graphics chipsets physx directX 11, 9.0c and I re-installed them all as well. The even funnier thing is I played the demo and it ran like a charm... so why do i have problems now!?

I have an Alienware Laptop m17x-R1 Area51 with:
Windows 7 32-bit Pro
Intel Dual Core Extreme x9000 CPU @ 2.80GHz
4GB Ram
Dual nVidia 8800M GTX 512MB cards in SLi (tried without SLi nothing changes)

Anyone else encountered this problem and/or even better found a solution?

UPDATE:
Here are the solutions I have found on a variety of forums and thus far attempted without any success, if you are having the same problems try them they have apparently fixed other peoples problems and may fix yours:

1. Creating a .bat file to start in windowed mode in various resolutions.
2. Edited the .pref file to show no initial sponsor movie ads
3. Deleted and re-downloaded the .pref file
4. Deleted and re-downloaded the /bin directory
5. Deleted and re-downloaded the whole game
6. Edited the launch option to -autconfig
7. Rolled back and upgraded to the following nVidia 8800m drivers: 186.81 notebook, 195.55 notebook, 195.62 notebook, 195.81 notebook. Trying to launch the game in every case
8. Attempted to run both in SLi and non SLi mode
9. Re-installed DirectX drivers of all sorts
10. Re-installed the C++ 2005 2008 redistribute packages
11. Installed Dox's modded drivers for nVidia cards

THIS PROBLEM WAS SOLVED AS FOLLOWS:

Type /disable_lightfx in the SupCom2 Launch options: to do this you can right click on Supreme Commander 2 in Steam and select Properties, then on the General tab, click the "Set launch options..." button and type it in there.

I have the same problem, Alienware laptop and crash at startup. Is it a problem with Alienware maybe? This is the EXACT same problem I've been having.

@Fiztandantibus: the 2 latest NVidia drivers are bugged. NVidia gave out a warning about using those. You should use an older version, maybe this is the cause of your issues here.

NEWS: Ok I have just realised that my desktop runs the game but its nVidia drivers are the version before the latest and beta (note my desktop has an 8800 GTS and my laptop dual 8800M GTXs):

So now I will attempt to instal the earlier 195.55 beta and/or if that doesnt work 186.81 WHQL driver and see what happens and will let you know

Part of me is wondering if there is a way to skip the intro video by changing the prefs, anyone think they can attempt this?

Yep Simply append
Code:
movie = {
    nologo = true
}
to the Game.prefs file.
