Arrow Plenty of populated servers....

I think somebody here has got a chip on his shoulder.

If by "servers" you mean ranked matches through the MM system, then no, there are probably none of those. The dedicated servers have killed them, and that's a good thing. If I wanted matchmaking and unlocks and achievement OCD, my copy of this game would be sitting in the other room next to Rock Band: Beatles, Uncharted 2, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

It was 1:30 in the morning, eastern time, when I logged in. On a Thursday. About a dozen servers are active, maybe half of them with a respectable number of people playing.

I initially expected this to be a negative post, because the first server I joined disconnected me and the second shut down, and both forced me to play a race I didn't want to play. But it was a simple enough matter to find an Infestation game full of people, and I jumped in for a nice half hour match. I got bored pretty quick. This game kind of sucks. These maps might be the worst I've ever seen from paid level designers.

But no, the game is not dead. There are not only 3 active servers or 4 for that matter. The individual who's been posting this information is not telling the truth.

what did you expect? Most of the people here didn't want to play AvP at all. They just wanted to play something before their godly praised BFBC2 arrives (that is just my personal opinion after reading all that BC2 crap here). AvP is not flawless, the ranked matches these days are all ing lagging, but honestly who cares about ranked matches? All you can get are new skins.
I have less time to play right now and maybe that is a good thing. So they time to fix some things (maybe) before I can play again.

Half a dozen servers is dead, most hl mods boasted orders of magnitude more.

I disagree with that. AvP and BC2 are completely different style of games. I think people play AvP not because they are looking for a multiplayer shooter. They play it because they love the movies and the franchise and wanted to capture that feel, to be part of it, to feel the terror of being stalked, the thrill of the hunt, and the elation of the kill.

BC2 is about one thing and one thing only. Killing the other team. It cannot hold a candle to AvP in terms of flavour.

Unfortunately, Rebellion/Sega have decided not to care about how we feel about the game. If they had the same amount of love for it as the real Aliens / Predator fans do, they would NOT have released such a badly tested and poorly supported mediocre product.

They have fallen utterly short of the expectations of the fans.

Fair enough, but what I don't understand is why people have to constantly cry about it on a third party forum, it will never make a difference and just cause frustration and doubt throughout the community.

People just don't understand that we don't care about them leaving this game, we don't care about them only seeing 4 servers at 2am in the morning ect.

That's more than you think. 2000 simulataneous players is more than enough for online play. The likes of Insurgency, ZPS, TFC etc. have far less players but more than enough to get a game when you want.

To be honest, I think they cry because they still care about AvP. If they didn't, they wouldn't be here at all. The complaints and comparisons are their way of showing their dissatisfaction. Anyway, Rebellion has previously stated that they do read these forums. So I guess players hold on to the hope that what they say would be heard by ears that care.

Comparing a less than a month old blockbuster game to mods and 10 year + old games is not a good thing.

from my experience, game's communities dont grow as games become older, they become smaller.

Well that all depends on what timezone you play on, if you aren't playing during peak your likely to find it harder to get in good games...also it shows if there are only a bit over 2,000 players peak why would Sega/Rebellion bother to continue patching and releasing new content for it? If all 2,500 players at peak buy this new DLC coming out at $5 each that is only $12,500 in revenue...not even enough to cover 1 developer's time invested. Now granted peak number of players is not total number of players but it is a good portion of it and a good indicator. Given 2,500 players at peak we are probably only looking at 10,000 players total or less which would be a potential $50,000 from the DLC...even that isn't enough to cover development costs.

We'll have to see if there is a population spike over the weekend...I'd expect some drop off during week days but there's been over a 30% drop off after the weekend and every day after has trended downward. Over the weekend AVP peaked just over 3,600 players each day. Monday dropped to just over 2,600. Tuesday and Wednesday dropped to just over 2,500. And today (Thursday) it dropped to just over 2,300.

Plenty of servers?

I load up my steam and all I see are empty servers, with exceptions of anywhere between 1-4 servers that are populated, usually under 10 players. In 1 case, there was 1 single populated server (all others were empty), that had 12/12 players.

That is the reality I see. May be your's is different due to different regions. But this is me in Canada, servers are North American in general, I assume mixed with some from UK.
