Angry Metro 2033 Executable has stopped working

Okay, I'll try to explain my problem without venting anger and frustration.
When I tried to launch Metro 2033, it goes to black screen then crashes with TWO window that says "Metro 2033 Executable has stopped working" (Assuming that Metro 2033 tried to start two executables that will occupy my dual core CPU for best optimization.)

I clicked the details of error on each error windows. It says,

First Window,

I have already searched through the internet and found couple of fixes that never worked on my problem. It appeared that the problem is coming from Metro 2033's executable coding and etc. I have latest beta nvidia driver for my 8800GTS. Already updated the windows update to the latest version. I'm on Windows Vista. No Viruses. Already have validated the files like 3 times. Already redownloaded the game. None of em' worked. So, please help me to solve this problem or I'm going have to ask for a refund.

This is probably my first problem about unable to get the game start up and running.

EDIT: To people who developed the game, next time, please fix your damn game before releasing it. I won't buy your next game until you fix your product reliability. I have wasted my whole day trying to get the damn game work. I pay my own money to play the game, not fixing it.

Same exact problem here. And I'm worried that the fix the sticky talks about won't help since dxdiag says I'm already running DX11.

Same crap
Just finished installing the latest 197.13 drivers , still won't start here either. And yes , I used DriverCleaner.net in safe mode as always. I have changed my video driver successfully a thousand times if once.
Funny thing is , played for 3 hours last night and no problems , tried to start it tonight...nothing.

anyone know what the startup.exe is in Task manager?

YESSS GOT IT WORKING!

I'll tell you how to fix it. Hopefully it works for you guys.

Note: Try install latest windows update including SP1 for vista, all videocard drivers before you do this. Trying Nvidia's beta driver could help.

Step 1. Turn your steam off and disable auto-start.

Step 2.
Go to Metro 2033 install folder which should be located in

Steam\steamapps\common\metro 2033\

find a folder named "install" and open it
(Steam\steamapps\common\metro 2033\install)

Step 3. reinstall the installer named
"vcredist_x86_sp1_atl_4053.exe"

Step 4. Open Directx folder
(Steam\steamapps\common\metro 2033\install\Directx)
and find DXSETUP.exe and run it.

Step 5. leave the Directx folder and open D3D11Install
(Steam\steamapps\common\metro 2033\install\D3D11Install)
NOTE: I'm not sure if everyone who don't have DX11 capable OS such as Vista or Windows 7 should do this.

Run D3D11Install.exe

Step 6. Once everything is done, restart the computer. Make sure Steam cannot autostart once you restart. When you restart, back to install folder.
(Steam\steamapps\common\metro 2033\install)

And run PhysX_10.02.22_9.10.0222_SystemSoftware.exe

IF it says its uninstalling, let it complete and reinstall.

Step 7. Start Metro 2033 and cross your fingers!

If this don't work or you have a crash report that contain problem with physx, I have a suggestion, run physx driver installer with steam running then restart then run metro 2033. A steam installer will pop up and install physx itself. After its done, game should crash as expected. Then go back to step 6. Try Again. I really hope it works for you!

I got Metro 2033 as a birthday gift. I am unable to launch the title. The error message I get is "This application failed to start because physxloader.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

My spes: HP Pavillian dv7-1285dx laptop. 2.4 dual core with 6 gigs of DDR2 ram. Nvidia 9600GT video card with 512 of memory.I went to Nvidia.com and scanned my system and it says:

Product Current
Installed Driver Latest Driver
Update
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 195.62 Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time.

The physxloader.dll file in installed as part of the Nvidia PhysX software installed with the game. As the user above posted, go to the folder labeled 'install' within your game directory and run "PhysX_10.02.22_9.10.0222_SystemSoftware.exe"

If the window that pops up asks you to uninstall, then go ahead and uninstall, then use the same executable to reinstall afterwards. Then try launching the game again (you could try to restart the comp first just to be safe; I didn't have to).

That said, I'm still encountering the "Metro 2033 Executable has stopped working" issue when I launch the game. It will go to the very first screen (the 4games logo) and play about half of the animation before the game crashes with this error. Everything is up to date and has been uninstalled/reinstalled at least once. I'm running out of patience.

Im in exactly the same boat as you mate. Mine freezes a little on the 4games screen, then carries on, then freezes completely on the THQ screen. All works flawlessly on my desktop, just not my laptop, and my laptop is much better in every way than my desktop. Really annoying me!!

Tried all of the above, anyone have any other ideas?

This is driving me nuts. The game worked yesterday and I have had a horrible time getting it to work today. But, I found out what was holding me up after much trial and error. It was FRAPS. I quit FRAPS and it launched fine. The crazy part is that it was working yesterday with FRAPS. So, I am not sure what is going on. But, I have can repeat the same steps over and over at this point. With FRAPS running, it crashes just as it goes to fullscreen mode and before any logo screens. With FRAPS not running, I get in fine.

Very bizarre. I am curious if anyone else is experiencing this behavior or perhaps have any ideas why I am.
