Steam games not loading
Hi all,
Asking for help w/ new system problems. Bought a new windows 7 pc recently. Downloaded steam, then steam games(L4D, L4D2, TF2). Games ran fine on 32 bit XP machine. All games now doing the same thing. When I try to run any games, I get "Preparing to Launch" for a couple of secs, then sometimes I see "syncing, 0 bytes/sec" by the app in the steam window. Then everything stops, and no errors are thrown. I've tried lots of stuff. 1. reloaded steam, reloaded programs, run all programs in all possible compatibility modes, and as admin. same behavior. 2. downloaded newest video driver, and tried to run w/ directx9. Same behavior. 3. Tried to diagnose w/ event viewer. No particular errors being thrown. Nothing to report. Any ideas what to try here? tkx, Owen Meany Here's my abbreviated system spec. i dont know if this'll work but try going to your steam folder and deleting your clientregistry.blob and restart steam

umm.... im gonna also go with verifying your game's content, defrag game, or reinstall the game, or put all of your GCFS in a different folder and completely reinstall Steam
might as well throw all the ideas i can think of in one post |

Tkx for feedback. I already wiped and reloaded steam, including all games. It's a brand new pc w/ 1TB drive, so it's not fragged at all.
How do you "verify"? The steam "support" line said I should run cable modem directly into pc, as opposed to through wireless router. Not sure why that would matter. Tried it, but I think I have to get comcast to reset modem, and in any case, I have to get his working w/ internet routing through router. Have others that use router. I do see the steam server. Friends, invites, etc, all that works. I also tried loading steamservice in service manager, since I saw a post for a differnt error that said that steamservice needs to run along w/ steam on 64 bit systems. Steamservice doesn't boot when I start steam, but even when I boot it manually, my behavior is the same. Getting this program to run is becoming a quest. |
