It is probably that you aren't logged into GFWL. Try that out.

I had just finished a game of Last man standing (was in the lobby) when I got booted to menu saying I had lost connection to authentication server and to check steam. Steam is going and I'm logged into GFWL.

Ok to remedy this problem i logged out it then told me steam was offline and to check its coverage i clicked on the coverage button, ignored it and relogged back in and it was fine then.

I got the same thing as well just there the now. Why we have to log into GfWL and Steam to play an Online Multi-player game is beyond me.
Do we really need Steam? If we have Steam then Why do we need GfWL? Are the servers provided by Steam? If we don't play on Steam servers then why should we have to suffer their login/maintenance issues when we play online? I am really starting to hate Steam. Oh and BTW you can't do anything in DoWII without using GfWL so you have to be logged in to go online or even play campaign which also really rubs me up the wrong way as well as if I need to be logged on to GfWL to play a single player game! |

This is both a Steam game and a GfWL game. Steam authenticates the game, GfWL authenticates profile info. The game was developed during a time when GfWL had features that Steam lacked, and so it uses both services. That's why you need both online to play online. You don't need to be online to play singleplayer, but you do need to make an offline profile to do it. That's all there is to it.
All this anger for at most an hour or so of maintenance every few days. You could've just as easily not been playing. Chalk it up to bad luck. When your Friends list is up, you're good to go. |

Maintenance is maintenance I understand and accept it there is no issue there. What I hate is having to log into an online profile to play the game (GfWL) and even though you can play single player without the Steam account servers you still get the pop up warning you your offline (with steam only) every time you click a button.
Are the servers we play on provided by Steam at all? If not and (as you know) we can log into our Steam accounts while maintenance is happening what is the game requesting from when it is giving us this warning and do we really need it? I think that's the biggest issue with this game so far is the amount of log in's to servers do we actually need it all? If they could trim some of the fat off at this game it would make playing this a lot smoother and for me more enjoyable. It's already proven to be a great game. |
