Running Steam Offline

I was aware that I was going to lose internet connection on one of my computers, so I logged into one of my Steam accounts in anticipation. I told Steam to remember my password, so I wouldn't have to type it in. I had assumed that by telling Steam to remember my account information, it would run in Offline Mode.

The ports necessary to run steam on my computer are now closed, and I'd like to run Steam in Offline Mode. However, Steam doesn't start in Offline Mode. All it does is tell me that it cannot connect to the internet.

I know that I can't connect to the internet, and Steam knows my user information. Is there any way I can force Steam to start in Offline Mode? Thanks in advance.

I unplugged my ethernet connection and noticed the "Start in Offline Mode" option. I click "Start in Offline Mode" and it immediately says, "Could not connect to Steam network. This could be due to a problem with your Internet connection, or with the Steam network. Please visit www.steampowered.com for more info."

Steam cannot start in offline mode unless it is set up properly and fully updated. See this Support article for instructions on setting up offline mode.

Offline Mode

I find that the best way to ensure that Steam will start in offline mode is to switch to offline mode before losing internet connectivity.

So, not having an internet connection sufficient for Steam to connect, I can't force it to go into Offline mode?

You can't; you will need to follow the instructions in the Support article if you wish to start Steam in offline mode.

I am getting this same problem. I have done what the offline article says three times now, no luck, just gives me the same error. Only happened today, yesterday I could start in offline mode just fine, but now it just give me the error, forcing me to connect to steam online, which is a pain because with the internet cutting in and out, I'm getting disconnected from steam in online mode anyway. Any idea what is causing this?
