Hardware upgrade
Hi,
I bought my pc about a year ago and have been playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 with about 25 fps in high mode. Motherboard: AS Rock K10N78hSLI-GLAN Processor: 3.27 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ GPU: nvidea 9800 gtx And was looking at buying this new cpu: AMD Athlon II X4 620 Socket AM3. I have 2 questions... 1) Will the above processor be compatible with my current motherboard ? 2) Will the new CPU give me more of a performance upgrade ? I appreciate any help that you guys can give. Many Thanks, George |

Investing in a better GPU will yield more significant results than a faster CPU, I think.

my initial response is no.
I dont think that will be an upgrade because the athlon II series, especially the 620 does lack L3 cache but it also has 2 more cores. I just dont know if the additional cores pro will outweigh the lack of L3 con. Good question though... I've heard you can overclock the 620 to hell n back though on air, so you can potentially end up with a mean quad core for a 100 bucks. and according to this page, if that mobo model is right, you can handle up to am3 processors, probably just need a bios update. http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.as...10N78hSLI-GLAN good luck |

of course for 39 dollars more you can get this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103656 this is personally what I was going to get until the rumors of the amd hex core surfaced (I'm holding out from upgrading for the hex core) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...717&CatId=1946 |

Great thanks guys.
I have just been looking around and I think I will invest in the: AMD Quad Core Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 - Retail Should give me a bit more juice and should hopefully up my performance. |

The new CPU will give you quite a nice performance boost. Don't know how your 9800GTX handles the game, though.

9800GTX/9800GTX+ handles games VERY well, so best thing would be a decent CPU upgrade and perhaps a better motherboard if pricing allows it..
