Earth 2160 - it's awesome

$4.99 on Steam? I figured I'd give it a shot.

I'm glad I did, because this is one of the most fun RTS games I've ever played. I sense enormous replay value here, what with the 4 completely different factions to play as, unique and in-depth research trees and vehicle construction. You research parts, and piece together your tanks, mechs, fighter jets. It's really quite impressive. The graphics are pretty good, too.

So, why did this game never take off? I've never read about it or heard any references or comparisons to it and it seems to be hard to find a good community surrounding this game or series. There's zero people logged into the online matchmaking service (and some of the more recent ladder scores were from 2008!

In any case, if you have a couple bucks to spare, and you're wanting a fun RTS, consider giving this one a shot. I've played a lot of RTS games and I think this is one of the most interesting and complex.

I can't believe I came across this game, I haven't heard of it for years. Yes, meaning I actually did know about the game...when I played Earth 2150. Earth 2150 was just awesome, but the graphics were terrible, I think that's going back to around 2002-03. But that's what can define a really good game, when the graphics are sub-par, but the game play makes up for it. But I was looking forward to this...and now for $5, I think I gotta take it up.

I have still have my old Earth 2150 retail cd's. One of my cd's has a crack in it. The game doesn't work anymore because I'm running a Quad-core CPU and Direct X 10 graphics card. I have tried Windows XP but it doesn't work either.

It's a good game if you've a single core pc.

This is a great game. 2150 was the best IMHO, as they introduced alot of stuff in 2160 that unbalanced the game.

If you are interested in nostalgia all this series draw heavily from the grandaddy RTS called Warzone 2100. The open-source version is pretty good.

It shouldn't of had a long after release demo especially for such an obscure game.

You obviously never played Earth 2140, which was in 1997 and still is a master piece.

E2150 isn't even close to it.

I played 2140 and I disagree, 2150 is the best in my opinion too. It just improved in every way (except the removal of soldiers).

People don't want complex well made games.

They prefer old remakes with nothing to add (in fact several units were removed) like Starcraft 2, mistaking flawed mechanics and task repetition for difficulty.

Haha I know, it's just odd that it wasn't on sale on the winter sale and not this time either, I guess if I have left over money on the steam wallet ill pick it up because I've had it in my wishlist for quite a long time.

Yeah I played 2150, we bought it for $9.99NZD several years a go. It was really fun, but 2160 is an amazing improvement.

Its a brilliant game, a bit of a hidden gem. Its been successful, but it deserves more attention.
