Far Cry 1

Does FC1 have the 64-bit patch or do I still have to look for it online? If so, what could be a cause of a black screen after launching the game? The black screen still lets me CTRL-ALT-DEL out of it and the task manager simply says "Not Responding"

Found an older topic about this and went to the links on filefront. But for some reason it says that my computer isnt 64 bit when it actually is.

Your computer may be 64 bit, but do you also have a 64 bit version of Windows installed?
You can install 32 bit Windows on a 64 bit PC, but not the other way around, but if you only have a 32 bit OS you'll get the warning that you have to be installing on a 64 bit PC whenever you try to install a 64 bit application.

Well I wasn't aware you could have 32 bit on 64 bit. So pretty much I'm in the least compatible position right now since this isn't the first time I haven't been able to install 64 bit stuff. Although this is how the computer came.

Well what does it say if you right click on My Computer?
Under System Type it should say 64 bit operating system, if you have 64 bit Windows installed.
Where did you get the computer? From a dealer, or did you buy it from someone?
Are you SURE it's a 64 bit computer? What model is your processor?
I can't think of any reason why you would get error messages that say that you have to have a 64 bit machine when trying to install 64 bit apps, unless you don't have a 64 bit OS installed.
Did you get a Windows DVD with it? Is it XP, Vista, Windows 7?

You can upgrade to 64bit if you are running Vista or Win 7 if I'm not mistaken. I don't think it even costs to do so either. Just be aware that any 32 bit games(older ones) you have that have 16 bit installers will not install on a 64 bit OS. I run Win7 64 but still have my OEM Vista 32 partition that I use for installing old stuff and then put a short cut on my Win7 desktop and play the games on Win7. After all the games themselves are 32 bit, it's just the installers that are prehistoric.

This is true, but the Far Cry 1 AMD 64 bit stuff installers (for the game and the content) aren't 16 bit.
I installed it all on Windows 7 x64 and didn't have any problems.

Oh I know that buddy. I was just giving him some broader info on the gaming hazards if he was thinking of going 64 bit. I just hate to see people switch to 64 bit and then they can't understand why a much loved game won't even install when they know it's 32bit game. 99% of my games run fine on 64 bit but there are always a few that won't and 16 bit installers are usually the problem. I enjoy my old games. Extra work at times but well worth it to me.

Agreed this IS NOT a problem for FC1

Sorry about that, I didn't catch it. But yeah you're right - if you want to play older games that might have 16 bit installers, a dual boot with 32 bit would be a good idea. Either that or a second computer.

No its just a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit machine. Which is weird since ti came that way. Got it from best buy *flame shield* which I know isnt the BEST idea, but there aren't any other places around here that works with computers.

You misunderstand. I know about all the patches and such. Its just for some reason they gave me the computer with 64-bit stuff and a 32-bit OS installed. So the patch installers say its for 64 bit simply because it looks at the OS and nothing else. I'll just have to get a Vista-64 OS disk.

No, not going to 7. My brother got a Windows 7 laptop and it just has problems I don't want to take a chance with. Vista is just fine to me. Just have the wrong OS installed is all.

Before you go out buying a new Vista disk, it should have come with a restore disk or a full regular OEM copy of Windows. If it did, check it out. (if it didn't, that's illegal) - it might have both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows on it.
Also, if I were you I would be calling Best Buy up immediately and asking why they sold a 64 bit PC with a 32 bit OS. Kinda defeats the purpose, you know? I would demand that they replace it with something else at no additional charge, OR install a 64 bit version of Windows on it, at their cost.

Having said that, if you prefer Vista over Windows 7, you're in the minority. You said your brother has troubles with Win 7, but that's actually the minority - it's usually Vista that people have troubles with. And Windows 7 really is just Vista with a whole lot of fixes and some pretty cool added features, better memory management, and more control over all the nannyware. I heartily recommend Windows 7 over Vista any day, and I was once a real Vista fan-boy.

Win 7 64 has been the best OS I have run so far and I loved XP. I don't buy retail OS's. I usually get whatever comes with my next new PC but I didn't with Win7. I bought retail after I fell in love with the beta and RC.

PS: I don't dislike Vista32. I just find it's performance a little lacking with games. It has however been extremely stable which would be an important thing to businesses. Don't know a thing about Vista 64 though.

If you have the 64bit addon it will install,I had it running.

Find a newer copy and install it,put in the gamefile in STEAM\ steamapps\common\farcry.
then run it!

First, you're late. Second, we have already established that I can't run it until I switch OS
