Exclamation Nice Free Weekend, Too Expensive

I had some fun trying out MW2 over the weekend. Looks like a nice polished game and it runs well. It's a shame, however, that Activision are trying to push a new RRP level for AAA games of £39.99 . Over the free weekend this was discounted to £33.99 which is still above the price of a well known e-tailer of £29.70 .

If the price started at £29.99, or lower, and was then discounted I suspect a lot more people would have bitten the bullet and actually bought the game, myself included.

Of course, they'll claim any surge in sales that this exercise has no doubt generated as a success, but hopefully at the back of their minds they will realise a high price point is hurting their potential sales and therefore their shareholders.

Look at Left 4 Dead 2. Also released around the same time as MW2, actually has a higher MetaCritic score and is currently £19.99, which they also discount from that on occasion.

If anything, Activision should be lowering their price anyway, to encourage more sales before the next big FPS title comes along to steal their userbase.

It's the top seller on Steam at the moment. People are obviously willing to pay the current price for it, why would Activision drop the price on it?

In the Netherlands the game is 59,99 Euros on Steam, even with the 15% off it is way to expensive. When I buy the same game on the internet including the DVD with no extra costs for sending it to me it will cost me 36,99 Euros for the same game. And guess what, I can use the serial key in Steam as well. So yes, just by comparing the prices of the digital version against the DVD version Call of Duty is way to expensive here.

So by just comparing I think something between 30-35 Euro's would be a fair price on Steam. Until then no Modern Warfare 2 for me. And I can wait because the singleplayer option is the only interesting part for me. I must say Battlefield is way better in Multiplayer anyway.

Lawldragon, what I'm trying to say is that yes this free weekend might be a success but I think it could have been more of a success and more £££ for Activision had they had a lower price.

I was definitely tempted but I'm not prepared to pay £33.99 for it and I'm sure there are other people with exactly the same thoughts. It's not that I'm skint either, I have a job and buy several games and subscribe to an MMO.

The only thing that's a shame is that people still buy this garbage, because they think it's as good as the first CoD's. This isn't a AAA quality game. Just check out the user score on metacritic and read some of the user reviews. The metascore is not valid, because many 'professional reviewsites' get paid to give high scores.

this is far from a 'nice' polished game that 'runs well'

spend more time with it.

Not defending the price of MW2, but I bought both MW2 and L4D2 at the same price and have only logged about 20 hours in L4D2 while logging nearly 400 in MW2. Maybe it's because I played the crap out of the first one that has me uninterested, or that the pacing is just too slow compared to this game.

VALVe games are typically always a great value. But I just find this game more exciting in comparison.

ugh MW2 actually runs pretty well on almost any PC out there that is slightly updated. It doesn't crash often.

Some people actually LIKE this game. Even I do but I issues with it. But the game is nice and polished and it certainly run well on PCs.

This would specially be true if you like COD4 which makes MW2 a game that has updated graphics, more kill streaks and new weapons. Some might be a bit annoying but hey COD4 had some as well.

Dont think i have every come across this in Cod Mw 1
infact i really cant remember much issues or anything that was annoying in Cod Mw 1

The graphics havent improved that much considering that to run COD Mw 1 in the high settings you had to have cards set up in SLI here you could prop run most of this game on high with a GTS240 in max res

I run MW2 at 1920x1200 with every piece of eye-candy maxed, with an Nvidia profile forcing 16xAF and 8xAA. It looks stunning and what's more, it's smooth as butter.

It makes AVP look like the amateur, homebrew POS and there's no wonder its a game that still commands top dollar, this long after release.

I was incredibly sceptical about a Map Pack going for a tenner too but again, the quality of the maps, the geometry, the detail, the whole experience is just a level above most everything else at the moment.

I was blown away by this game and im now looking for the best price to snatch it up for.

It's $51 at Newegg with free shipping. Cheaper elsewhere. There's no point to buy it for $60 (or $51) on Steam; it's overpriced either way.
