16 more gigs?! (How to speed up EFLC download!)

I just bought EFLC. I own GTA IV. Am I really going to need to use 16 more gigs to just install the DLC when I already own the original game?

Copying
steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto iv\GTAIV\pc
to
steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto iv episodes from liberty city\EFLC\pc
WILL improve download time.

You are downloading a whole new game whereas in the DLC version it just needs installs the missions and a tiny of bit extras. Most of the extra gigs are from the actual city itself so yeah.

Wait, so why don't they sell the DLC versions on Steam too? It doesn't seem to make sense to just sell the standalone versions because that forces everyone to basically downloaded Liberty City when they just need the addons.

It's going to take a while

I'm copying over the GTAIV\pc\ folder (13 gigs) to the EFLC folder...HOPEFULLY some of the content is direct copies, and this will let me skip downloading some files. I'll report back.

Let us know if it works. .
Also, don't forget to ''Verify integrity of game cache'' and ''Defragment cache files'' by clicking ''properties on GTA: Episodes of Liberty City to make sure everything is right. But i bet you already know that. .
That can save me a lot of time, my connection is quite crappy and i bet i'm going to finish by tomorrow night. lol

It seems to work for some files, at least. I jumped from about 800 megs to 1.5 gigs at one point. Obviously, there are a bunch of changed files, but it seems some are just copies. I'm down from ~4.5 hours before copying to ~3.5 hours after (same DL rate of 1 MB/s).

The 3.5 hours could always become less as it verifies the files I copied (As I was typing this it jumped from 1.5 gigs to 1.7 gigs, and the ETA fell to 20 minutes because of the quick jump. :P)

So yes, copying the GTAIV\PC folder to EFLC\PC will help.

More proof:
I was at ~800 MB downloaded when I booted up steam. Check the Downloaded amt + the Total Downloaded amount this session

PS: You don't need to verify the cache if the game is initially downloading. It'll see that the files are there as it goes. Of course it wouldn't hurt to do that after it finishes downloading/verifying.

Edit: Woah: Just had a BIIIG jump from 2.something gigs to 4.5 gigs.

If you own GTAIV on Steam are you able to simply purchase the DLC through GFWL and still open it through Steam?

DO NOT MERGE EFLC FILES WITH GTA IV FILES. They are incompatible with one another; you will be unable to load the game and will have to re-download.

Any reason you never decided to, you know, help everyone out before this situation developed? You really want PC gamers to hate you, don't you.

P.S. thanks for not telling us this game would be available on Steam.

What... do you think developers have all day to protect gamers from themselves? What kind of idiot would want to merge game files from different games just to save a couple of hours of download? That's about the most stupid thing I've read on these forums (and there's some seriously mouth-breather stuff posted here).

Way to sound like a dolt.

And don't give me that "Not everyone has broadband" crap. Yes most people do. Either move to somewhere where you can get fast downloads like the rest of us or suck it up and wait to buy at retail.

Really? Then why did it work for me?
Steam verifies the files as it downloads, and you can also validate the files AFTER downloading to catch anything that shouldn't be there. I copied the GTAIV files BEFORE downloading (well, after downloading 800 megs), and then verified the files after it FINISHED downloading. There were only 16 files that needed to be redownloaded (4.9 MB), and the game runs PERFECTLY.

Did you think I was suggesting copying the GTAIV folder to the EFLC folder AFTER completely downloading EFLC, replacing the downloaded files?!

Can someone confirm whether the Steam version comes with the extra radio stations as per retail copy?

Thanks.
