Visa Called Freezing My Card and Claiming Valve Corporation is a "Fraud"

Gentlemen (and Ladies),

Today I got a call from Visa (the credit card company) in which they told me my card was frozen due to "supicious" activities. When asked what was going on, they told me that my purchace of Penny Arcade Ep 1+2 on Sunday were done on a fraud site.

I questioned deeper and they told me they are currently freezing all my cards that have bought anything from the Valve Corporation, due to my "security".

Just a few hours ago I also bought the fantastic Alien Versus Predator 2000 deal for $1.99, or 2 bucks for you who prefer whole numbers.

Valve, why the hell is my credit card company telling me you guys are frauds? How can I clear this up?

Regards,
~KaosAngel from GiantBomb

LOL...Id submit a ticket to Steam Support, You'll get help alot faster. I myself do not know why that would happen, but good luck getting it fixed.

Not sure, but my credit card statements say Valve Software, not Valve Corporation. So that may be a clue.

However, you should put in a support ticket, not ask the masses what's up. Valve doesn't respond on here other than volunteer moderators and they won't be able to help you at all, they just don't have that kind of vital secure access.

Ah crazy. I have had calls from Visa as well, but they usually just ask if I authorized a purchase, and let it go through if I say yes.

Are you sure the people calling you saying they are from the CC company are legit. Mine calls to verify online purchases or purchases very different from normal activity. I tell them that they are alright and thats the end of it. If they cancel payment your Steam account going to get disabled if you have already DL'd the games. It's not the same as being banned but you aren't going to be able to play till it's cleared up.

Hm. I had this happen a couple of years back with Digital River: they'd been flagged by Visa as fraudulent for some reason. (Still don't know why.) In that case, once DR was made aware of the problem, they had to fix it themselves with Visa. So, contacting Steam Support is probably the best way to go.

@ the OP: Did you get your credit card straight from Visa, or through your bank? You might want to try contacting your bank for further info if so.

As for me, I bought a few things on Steam on April 9th, and the transaction's still pending on my Visa (shows as "VALVE SOFTWARE"), which is slightly unusual, but it hasn't been rejected yet. No phone calls yet either, and I used the card again today just fine.

I don't might be a little thing, but if your statement says Valve Software and your Credit Card Company is calling saying the Valve Corporation is a fraud then I don't think they're talking about the same thing unless Valve changed the ID name with that credit card, which is very unlikely. If I got that call and I had a discrepancy I'd just hang up and wait a day or two. If you still have your game on steam then cool. If not, then the call was legit. I hope you didn't give them any private information.

When my credit card company calls I ask them give me their information first, that way I can match it up with my paperwork, like my account number. If they don't want to give it to you, hey they called you, as long as you say yes, I'm Bob, and that's who they're asking for they can give you certain information.
