How to beat Deno in Beast's Chase?

I've been breezing through the game up to this point, but then I get to Beast's Chase and have no idea how to beat Deno for two reasons. First, he does incredible, over-the-top damage. I faced off against him with a 2,000 HP beast, and he killed my beast in the first couple of turns with a single attack. And it wasn't just a lucky match; multiple attempts show that he regularly generates thousands of points of damage, which means even my toughest beast dies in two of his attacks.

Second, that's not even the main problem: the pinhead flees after just a few turns. I've found nothing that can stop him from building up the energy necessary to use his flee attack, and he uses it as soon as it's charged. So after a handful of turns (assuming my beast isn't dead already), he flees and ends the battle in failure. I cannot do enough damage to him quickly enough to kill him before he kills the Hart, which fails the whole stage.

Can somebody give me advice? I was having a lot of fun with the game up to this point, but now it's like somebody has thrown the pain-in-the- switch to make the game bloody impossible.

Heres my advice.
Firstly pack monsters that are strong against his element (Which I can't recall what it is right now) that will make battling him a ton easier.
Secondly make sure to hit him quick, don't bother with huge combo's he will leg it before you get the chance to use them, damage carrys over if he retreats, few quick hits with a monster hes weak against will pretty much kill him.

If your still having trouble, go back through previous levels and make sure to grab most of the monsters you would have missed doing the storyline.

If your still having trouble, I'll get a video walkthrough of that level up see if it helps.

Maybe you can help me understand something. The in-game help and other sources indicate that you should match gems of the opposing beast's color. So let's say the enemy beast's color is yellow for sake of discussion. The help/manual say that they won't get any power for matches of that color, but I find they get a big boost when I do it in game. So what's the real story? If a creature's color is yellow, to what are they really vulnerable?

Second, I fear I wasn't clear. It's not that I can't get off any big combo: it's that I can't get off any combo! By the time I've charged up enough power to get a gem on the board, he flees and the battle is over. If I use my creatures that can attack really fast, he usually one-shot kills them before they can even attack.

I still don't get how to beat this guy. It's like the game difficulty went from zero to infinite all of a sudden.

In the summoners den, it shows what colour is weak against what, in the case of yellow, its weak against blue.

As for the combo take your time and focus on his element, by matching gems of his colour, it stops his bar charging allowing you more time to deck him in, remember, bars charge every turn, Its not based on time (Although I can't recall if its that level or the next, try to avoid Idle twisting, it will get you killed)

And remember, you can stop his attacks by making combo's with the jewels, it might get you over the whole 1-3 hit kills you seem to be having trouble with.
And finally, if your still having trouble, come back to it, go get a few more monsters, levels, items ext and come back when your stronger.

I must be dense, because I don't understand how you're reading the Summoner's Den information. When I go to the summoner's den and select a beast, I see a message at the bottom that says "Effective against beasts with ^ affinity" where the caret symbol is an upward red arrow. Every single beast in the den gives that same message, and the arrow always points to a yellow gem. So does that mean every beast is effective against red beasts? Or yellow beasts? I don't get it. This game needs a manual or a better help system.

Ok I'll try to explain this as best I can.
First of all, have a look at the following screenshot.
http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/96104982-4.jpg
As you can see from the screenshot there it shows all the jewel colours, (Its at the bottom of the monster window but above the info about the creature) what that shows is what jewel colour the monster is strong or weak against.
That screeny shows my Wyrm dragon is neutral against Red, yellow and purple (Meaning no monster with that element/jewel colour has an advantage)
As you can also see there are two red arrows next to the white and green elements/jewels, this means the monster your currently viewing is strong against those elements/jewels, in a fight, that monster will gain an advantage in a fight with monsters of those elements/jewels.
And finally there are blue downwards facing arrows on the orange and blue jewels/elements, this means in a fight, the monster your viewing would be at a disadvantage to monsters of that jewel/Element.
I do hope I've finally cleared that up for you, if not, just remind me what element Deno is and I'll suggest what to go with.

Also, you might get more time if you build up your character a few extra levels. The bars charge difference is level based, so if you are several levels lower then your opponent, your bar(and thus your moves) will charge a bit slower then the enemy. What might be happening is you are just too underleveled and so he runs off way faster then he should.

I think I beat him by using the ice owl, actually. That creature's abilities (Namely the turn gems white one) makes it relitively easy to get energy and activate your combo jems.

But the basic idea is to use things he is weak to, and hit him FAST. (so, no turtles ) Avoid creatures with either long charge times or with powers that you need to stack for damage. Look for cheap, spammy type monsters for your team.

Good Luck!

Oh for crying out loud! I didn't even notice those arrows! Now I get it. The little thingy at the bottom is pointing to anything; it's the developers' (brain-dead) way of telling me that a red up-arrow means advantage. Ok, now I get what you're talking about. I'll go back and see if I can level my beasts a bit. Thanks much!

Leveling your beasts makes this significantly easier. Try going through the earlier levels and kill EVERYTHING to power yourself up and get some more gyro codes. Even then, don't expect to get more than one or two attacks off before he flees. Just keep trying and, as long as you hit him at least once each time, you'll get it.
