I got a powerfull computer, and the game performance is... disappointing.

I got Core 2 Quad Q9300; 4 GB RAM; Radeon 5770 1024mb graphic card.
Problem?
Game runs... well, mostly a-okay, but sometimes it hits 35-40 fps, and feels quite sluggish. Why? This is a powerfull computer, shouldn't it be way more on 1440x900 maxed out?

Hate to break it to you.

5770 isn't THAT powerful. I would say the recommended card for maxing out would be the 5850 which can up the cost significantly from the 5770.

Your maxed out settings are already way more than the xbox and ps3 though.
For reference, xbox and ps3 are 1280x720.

wow, i'm running a 9800GT, 2 gigs of DDR2, and a core2duo at 3.0ghz, and get 60-90 FPS in DX10. funny how the optimization works on this thing...

there are fewer pixels on your display than a 1280x1024, it's just too low of a resolution to get much of any extra benefit out of the higher textures.

and as before, are you running windows XP?

I have a core 2 duo 3 ghz, 6 gb ddr2 ram, 5770 1gb.
Running game on medium settings just fine in dx11 @ 1680x1050.

I tried high settings but there is some lag when there are heavy explosions and smoke and stuff. 5700 can handle medium settings easily atleast up to 1680x1050 which is my asus monitor native resolution. If someone has one of those fullhd monitors that support 1900xsomething post if 5770 can handle this higher resolution.

turn AA off if you have it, use a resolution like 1280 x 1024 or 1280 x 720 - that resolution is a bit odd to use, the game or your graphics card drivers may not be optimized for that res.

Don't feel bad.

Performance gets worse and worse after each patch. If they keep going at this rate in 2 patches the max FPS you can get will be 30.

well changing to dx9 helped me alot... (To be honest... dont see the differences from dx10 to dx9...)

which ables me to play at 1920x1080 and highest graphics at high fps

The 5770, while a strong card, is not "specifically" meant for gaming alone. The 5800 and 5900 series cards are pure gamers through and through. Still, you should get pretty decent FPS with that thing. I'm not an intel guy, but you might be bottlenecked somewhere? What board are you running and what are your RAM timings set at?

I can max out the game on 1680 X 1050.

Phenom II 940 @ 3.5
MSI K9A2 Platinum
2X Radeon 4870 in crossfire
4 Gigs 1066 RAM

I'd also recommend trying previous driver versions if you have not already. The 10.3's are supposed to be the best yet for the 5000 series cards, but I personally prefer the 9.11's for my 4870's.

Also make sure you are not running windowed. Dumb suggestion I know, but just in case. The game does like to launch into a window sometimes.

OP don't feel disheartened I've got an i7920@3.2Ghz, 6GB RAM and a gtx470 and the game runs ♥♥♥♥e. Bench marks, vantage, rocket sled, heaven and stone giant show good performance though.

It runs the game better on low settings than my gtx260 did though

I have a Q9550 @4ghz with 4GB DDR2800 running @925mhz with a 5770 and I run everything on high 2xAA 16xAF at 1920x1080 and the only time I notice a slowdown is when a building is getting demolished by a mortar strike. The Physics really take a toll on this graphics card...
