Ubisoft Game Launcher Error: Error code 1

Awesome.

Mine just says no connection. Had i not a connection I wouldn't be in forums posting about it :[

I get error code 51, it won't even start the ubisoft launcher.

Posted about this on the ubisoft forums and got this from a tech support guy.

Uninstall Ubisoft Game Launcher from add/remove (programs & features). Reinstall from: http://static3.cdn.ubi.com/orb...auncherInstaller.exe

Didn't work for me because it's not in my programs and features.

You have to go to start and put "regedit" in your start search location.

Once inside Regedit, go to:

HKEY_Local_Machine/Software/ubioft and delete "ubisoft game launcher" folder.

THEN go into:
HKEY_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Uninstall

In this folder you'll see a crap load of Registry keys, they're in numerical order. Scroll down until you find:

{888F1505-C2B3-4FDE-835D-36353EBD4754}

This is the launcher's registry key. Delete it.

Now you've manually un-installed something that was somehow deleted without completely being taken out of the registry.

Go to http://static3.cdn.ubi.com/orbit/lau...rInstaller.exe (this is a direct download which your browser may represent by an "about:blank" page, but the download request should still go through.)

to download the new launcher, or re-install Splinter Cell Conviction and it'll re-install the launcher now that it's no longer in the registry.

If you get "System Validation" and it crashes the exe, go to:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\tom clancy's splinter cell conviction\src\system

and delete or rename the "systemvalidation.dll" file.
THERE IS NO DANGER IN DELETING THIS:
Anytime steam updates, (or if you do a file validation) Steam will download this .dll and replace it once again. Which means you will have to delete it every time the game is update or you do a file validation.

After you do this, when you start the game, an error will appear saying it can't find the system validation software.
Click "ok" and the game will start and bring up the Ubisoft login screen for the DRM.

If you start the game and it is frozen on "Establishing Connection" just hit cancel, wait a few minutes (or reboot if you wish) and then try again, this is a server bandwidth issue and you just have to get "lucky" to connect.

That's all the troubleshooting I've done to get my game to work so far.

OH, and turn down all your graphics eye candy if you don't want fatal crashes.

The problem for me seems to be that it just won't install properly. No matter which Ubisoft Game Launcher I use. It also doesn't apparently install it when I use the one from their site. Steam still tries to install it.

search for my post on system validation i found out a way to a have it to work and then i was able to have my system validation file and max out my graphic

I have the same problem on Hawxs 2

Quick Guide for those familiar with their machine is presented at the bottom of this post as a quote keep reading for a more in-depth tutorial if you are not as comfortable with your machine. Most people should be able to handle the simple version.

The in-depth guide
I had the same issue with Hawx 2 but I have found a far simpler solution than those already suggested. It is a similar fix but simpler. Also I believe I know the cause. In aero machines (vista and 7) the security restrictions are far tighter and they don't like things that install behind the scenes. Usually steam asks us to install each necessary sub component like C++ runtime libraries however for the Ubi-Launcher it tried installing behind the scenes. If a user clicks a window (gives it focus) then windows grants it install permissions but invisible installs must be given the rights differently, this is especially true in 64 bit systems when some dlls may be installed in System32 AND SysWow64 (64 bit sys 32 dir). Therefore to fix the issue one or at most 2 steps are needed.

Steam has already downloaded the file we need to use it is in your steam folder e.g. for Hawx 2 on a Vista 64 Bit Ultimate machine:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\tom clancy's hawx 2 emea

replace the "tom clancy's hawx 2 emea" bit with whatever folder describes the game you are having issues with. Also if you use a 32 bit machine (like most people) rather than a 64 bit machine it will not have the (x86) bit like this:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\tom clancy's hawx 2 emea

When a steam game installs it puts all other installers that may be needed in the appropriate folder for the game. In the case of Hawx 2 there is a "redist" folder which means re-distributable files (usually necessary for the game to work). Not all games have a separate folder for these extras many just have "DirectX", "DotNetRedist" and "VCRedist" right in the game folder those are the most common ones others may include "XNA", anything with the word re-dist in it and anything else really if its something else you can probably work it out just by looking through all the installers you can find. Usually steam installs them all for us. In this case it missed the Ubi-Launcher so in the redist folder you will find a "GameLauncher" folder or similar and within that is "UbisoftGameLauncherInstaller.exe" this is the file you want to run, and unblock if necessary (See step 1).

1. (Optional) Unblock the installer.
Some anti-viruses may block it from installing and depending on your precise windows version and settings you may need to right click on the installer and go to properties and click the unblock button sometimes present for files downloaded from another computer without express user permission. I did not experience this but I suspect it may be necessary on certain machines so I am including it for completeness.

2. Run the installer manually.
Steam nicely downloaded it for us in advance all you have to do is go and run it, you don't need to worry about old registry keys as they will be overwritten anyway. You may want to choose run as administrator from the right click menu, again I did not need to but it is included for completeness for more restrictive systems.

The Quick Guide

The Ubi-Launcher tried to run in hidden mode which in aero machines requires higher permissions so was not allowed. It is simple to fix.

1. (Optional) Unblock the installer.
If your security system blocked it when Windows denied it permissions go and unblock the thing. The file you want is "UbisoftGameLauncherInstaller.exe"

2. Run the installer manually.
Steam downloaded it for us in advance all you have to do is go and run it. You may need to run as administrator if you are not the admin. The file is in the steam folder

steamapps\common\tom clancy's hawx 2 emea\redist\GameLauncher\UbisoftGameLauncherInstaller.exe

Obviously the game path will need changing to whatever game you are fixing.

As we have run the one distributed with steam there should be no compatibility or activation issues it should install easily and then just work. I have tried this on several of my computers on both 32 and 64 bit machines running vista and 7 with several games. Vista is better, hold your cries of outrage, if you configure it right its a lot more stable than 7, providing you have a good enough computer but most people don't configure it right; just because everyone hates vista does not mean that everything is it's fault which is why I chose my main machine as the example as it is the worst possible combination I could think of for most people Vista + 64 bit. This fix takes about 2 minutes to do providing you are confident with your machine and know where everything is.

This has been independently tested as working on 4 different computers running Vista/7 32/64Bit including 1 laptop and 2 other machines not directly accessible to me, I sent a shorter version of this guide to 2 of my friends with similar issues and in all cases the issue has been resolved. I cannot confirm the validity on XP or lower as I do not have access to an XP machine at the moment and all of my friends have vista or 7 however I do not believe that the issue should arise on XP as permissions are handled differently.
