There is possibly a bug with steam, where it constantly writes to your hard drive. It is entirely possible the bug is on the client machine but here is a link, If anyone is experiencing the same problem please post in the thread linked below. Also watch your own machines resource consumption and see if you could have the problem and not even know it.
