How Do I Recover my files?

I backed up all of my game files before my computer died onto an external hard drive. They show up on my external.

all my games are re-installed, I am just unsure how to get those backed up files on my external back onto steam so all my saves are back and what not. I do not know much about computers..so if someone could help me I would appreciate it. Thank you!

well generally if you backed up the files, you would put them back to the same location on the new installation.
What files did you exactly back up?

Well in steam if you right click on the game there is a button that says back-up...so I clicked it...and backed up everything? I dont know if that makes sense...

Sorry to tell you, but that backup feature only backs up game data, installation files only. Since you already re-installed all your games, it is of no use to you.
