Steam games desktop icons missing

This is a minor problem, but it bugs me.

Several game icons on my desktop are missing (DoD, CS, HL2, HL2ep1, Portal and TF2) and some are wrong (Gmod have the steam icon and so do L4D)
After some digging in the /Steam/ folder i found out that some .ico files are missing from /steam/steam/games/ for no reason at all. Is this caused by steam or what? Some old demo icons are still there too.

There's no other problem than this. The games work fine, the library window looks good etc.

Well for the icons that are there such as Gmod that are wrong, they will still appear if you purchase and begin to download the game, regardless of whether you ever finish it or not.

As for the missing icons, I don't really know, as I always just use my library to access my games, which is easy enough.

Um, hi.

Yo Avalanche. I have Windows 7/64. "I posted a solution here" doesn't work. I tried it and I still have the same number of planet icons as I did before. I even have a brand-spanking new, clean and fresh Windows install. I'm kinda disappointed bro. No, really I am. Disappointed. Ha, just messin' with ya bro. I appreciate your solution but it didn't work for me Avalanche dude.

I know what does work though. First you get a freeware program called Icons Extract. Next you extract the missing icons from the .exe's in your Steam folder. Then you put those icons, say, in another folder somewhere on your computer. Next and also last you open the properties of each "infected" Steam shortcut and change it's icon by pointing it in the direction of your shiny new folder of icons. I guarantee this method to work 100% of the time, guaranteed. I guarantee it. I really do. I'll even offer a money back guarantee on your freeware if this method doesn't work for everybody, every single time. Ok, I'm messin' around again but I'm havin' some fun eh!! Now let's all go out there and play the hell out of those games with their shiny new icons eh!! Whee!!
