Failing to load libsteam.dylib

I downloaded the DMG, copied it to my Applications folder, ran it and it downloaded 2 updates (33MB and 10.9MB IIRC). When it's done, I get an error saying "Failed to load libsteam.dylib". How can I fix this?

This may be a coincidence but I've noticed we're both on Verizon (FiOS in Northern VA for me), and both had problems downloading the DMG. I might try some other connection set ups (proxies, friend's Wifi) to see if that solves it.

I am a bit north of Baltimore and I believe all my traffic gets routed through NoVa.

I am also now unable to stay connected to servers on my windows box, it can not contact the VAC server so I get booted. Any chance you are seeing that behavior as well?

Out of curiosity, what does your network look like? Are you just using the verizon actiontec router or do you have a second router?

I have a router running DD-WRT sititng in the Actiontec DMZ, if I connect my machines directly to the Actiontec there is no difference in behavior.

Seeing that the Actiontec router had previously had connection issues due to an inadequate NAT table, I removed a bunch of NAT rules that were no longer needed, and rebooted the router. that seems to have fixed my PC getting dropped due to not being able to access the VAC servers.

No love on the libsteam.dylib issue yet though.

I have a semi-complicated network, with the Actiontec set up with DMZ to an AEBS hooked up to one of the LAN ports (Details: Actiontec provides an open 2.4 GHz network, DMZ'd to the AEBS providing a protected 5GHz network, and then a Fonera w/ DD-WRT is set up to supply a protected 2.4GHz network on the same subnet as the AEBS). The issue resolved itself for me early this morning (around 4am). I think the issue was with the Steam CDN, so if you're still having the problem, maybe switching to the Google DNS servers may help (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). Oh, and the NAT issue was pretty much solved in Rev. E of the Actiontec (which I have).

I'm getting this as well, and I'm also right outside of Baltimore, and I'm on fios.

Edit: So I restarted, the 10.9MB one worked, then went for something that was 5kb, and failed again.

Edit again: Tried relaunching steam, got a 9MB update, it installed, then I got a 11.3MB update, it failed. Relaunched steam again, got 2 more updates, the later being like 250kb and then steam worked! finally

I was able to get steam to install under a new user.

Ill do some troubleshooting on my non working account and retest. Hopefully just tossing some prefs will resolve it.
