installing steam

I am currently trying to install steam on my mac. after attempting to open the file i get an error saying it must be created on a case insensitive filesystem with readwrite access.

What version of OS X are you on? Do you know if your filesystem is case-sensitive?

and the disk format is case sensitive, journaled os extended
