noclip doesn't work

I tried to go into console on Half Life and type:

sv_cheats 1
noclip

and this works for me on any other Half Life game, TF2, Portal, etc., but not on Half Life 1. The console works in Half Life with some other commands (like thirdperson) so for what possible reasons is noclip not working?

Thanks in advance.

For half life 1, you have to do this:

Hit your console, and type sv_cheats 1

Exit the console, save your game.

Load you game, then open the console. Try your cheat. If that doesn't work, try saving after you load the console and type your cheat, and then load that save.

It's quite annoying, actually.

You seem to need to enable cheats, then load a save or start a new game for the cheats to work in HL1.

I'm glad they changed that for HL2.

Or make -developer = 1. Seems to do the trick for me without having to reload my game

Is that a game launch option? Or it in one of the config files?

It's a game launch option. On my WON version, my launch options are simply '-console -dev', which seems to work. I still have to do the reloading thing to make the cheats work properly though.

Oh well. Good thing I don't use cheats when I play. Of course, it makes me somewhat lame when trying to help someone who *does* want to use them for some reason.

Wait, what's the difference between "dev" and "console"?

-console allows opening the console ingame (typically with the ` key), and also forces the game to bypass the opening videos (Valve and Sierra, and Gearbox in the case of the expansions). -dev is necessary in order to make certain cheats work (in particular, the give command), and also turns on certain ingame error messages (such as 'short X faces' and 'got a velocity too low on X' and so on).

In the Steam version, 'developer' can be changed while in-game (or in launch options). It was in the WON version that you had to use the -dev game launch option.

Debated on whether or not to neco this thread but since it's a help thread not a offtopic thread I have decided to bring it back rather than having 2 threads on the same subject.

I can't remember the last time I used cheats on HL1 but I couldn't get no clip to work or fly. I was playing the Dreamcast mod version and had a bad glitch on c1a4 or c1a4b so was going to cheat to where the elevator was supposed to take me and it wouldn't work.

So I then exited the mod and started up regular Hl and tried the cheats to no avail thinking maybe cheats don't work on mods. I could load maps but not get noclip or fly to work. Also when I loaded the maps I had no weapons.

I did verify and still no love. Do we have a definitive answer yet?

Did you try the "start sv_cheats and then immediately save and quit and restart" method?
