GTA III - no audio hardware?

hey i just got GTA III and there is no in-game sound. the options screen says "no audio hardware" even though i have speakers. please help!

I fired up GTA III for the first time tonite also and have the same issue. I did some searching on google but didn't find anything that worked. My sound card is a Razer Barracuda. If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear em.

I'm having the same problem, I tried to play today and it is saying that there is no audio hardware. The intro to the game plays fine and there is audio, but in game there is no audio.

I too am experiencing this. What makes it more frustrating is that the Rockstar Logo and opening Credits have sound, just fine

They only updated the gta3.exe. testapp.exe is still the cracked version so try to delete the gta3.exe and rename testapp.exe to gta3.exe.

Renaming testapp.exe does not work. Even started it directly from the file instead of steam... =/

OMG, are you ♥♥♥♥ing kidding me??????? I've almost reformated my hard drive, wanting to solve this problem.

Too bad. I haven't tried it myself. Audio is still working for me with Rockstar's new patch.

The best would be if everybody who has this issue writes to Rockstar's support.

This issue just came about after the update from Steam TODAY !
