Sands of Time with the xbox360 controller walking, not running
I've installed the game recently and decided to use my shiny new xbox360 controller (wired) with it. I managed to map the pads and buttons in the options, and almost everything is working well.
However, I'm having some problems with the analog stick. Specifically, I can't always get the prince to run when pressing Up all the way on the stick. For the other directions he runs as soon as change the stick to the direction, however when going up he starts walking and then after some time picks up speed and starts to run. I have calibrated the controller using the windows control panel, more than once, but it doesn't solve the problem. Does anyone have any ideas about this, or had similar problems? |

Ok, as a follow up, I managed to solve the problem. What I have read around is that the official Microsoft drivers for the xbox360 controller doesn't let you control settings like the sensitivity of the analog sticks, and this can cause problems with older games (newer games that use the xinput API doesn't seem to have trouble with this, I've played Batman Arkham Asylum and even enabled the gamepad in L4D just to test it).
There's an open source driver for the original XBox controller and the xbox360 controller for windows with which you can control settings and better fine tune the controller for some games, it's called XBCD. I've downloaded and installed it and used some settings I've found around and it's working wonderfully. The driver is a bit of a hassle to install and use in Vista SP1 or Windows 7, though. More details (and the link to download the newest version of the XBCD drivers) here: http://redcl0ud.1.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=2155 |

So for anyone else who had this issue, how did you fix it?
I'm already running XBCD but I'm still noticing that I'll often start to walk even though I'm pressing the stick all the way. I notice that it only happens when I'm pressing the analog stick in a diagonal direction. Straight up, down, left, right always works I don't really see any options in the XBCD setup utility that would screw around with this either. ..short of switching the analog sticks to a digital mode which I really don't want to do. edit: OK, I found something that works 90% of the time: Check the Full Range box for the left stick in the XBCD setup utility. I could solve this by recalibrating the controller:
System Settings -> Hardware & Sound -> Devices & Printer -> XBOX360 Controller (right click) -> Gamecontroller Settings -> Options (I hope this is right, I'm not on an English OS) After recalibrating, the prince would run again =) |

1. when it says hit all d-pad corners, do the left stick instead. Now this is very important: DON'T push the analog stick all the way to the corners. Lightly push it so the little cross is able to hit the corner; it will only go NEAR the corners if you push the stick all the way. Also, make sure after doing all 4 corners the cross ends up in the middle, because if it is off by alot, the character will move regardless of you using the controller or not 2. the last 3 steps show you a bar that is half filled. You have to make it fill all the way, then empty with the various axis' it tells you to press 3. Z axis are the triggers; left trigger fills the bar, right trigger empties it 4. X and y axis is the right stick, Y axis means up and down, X axis means left and right. 5. Pressing right fills the X axis bar, pressing left empties it 6. Pressing DOWN fills the Y axis bar, pressing up empties it (I know, confusing). If you have more questions, feel free to PM me. I'm running windows 7 64-bit, I'm sure your to run into a lot more problems on win 8 |
