Well considering everyone's rushing to get TF2 for the Mac, the servers that authenticates your copy of TF2 is just overwhelmed by Mac users all downloading all at once.

I don't see why this happens in the first place. I never do a google search and get back, "sorry, our servers are overloaded " They know that traffic is going to be insane yet they don't plan ahead. Typical Valve.

Maybe it doesn't make sense to invest in an infrastructure just for once in a while events because people don't usually download en masse. It's just the fact that the Mac version came out and tons of Mac fans just went and dl TF2 all at once. Normally Steam servers aren't this busy.

OHHhhh I have before. I have seen, on very very VERY rare occasions, where Google's servers were having stability issues. I remember when this used to happen to YouTube on an almost weekly basis.

Google most likely has WAY more servers than steam.

Look man, they released it less than 24 hours ago. Everyone and their aunt is rushing to download and play it online. Even a large number of PC users are installing it on macs so they can get a few of the mac-only items in-game.

We all understand that it's taking a while to download, and yes, you've bought it and can't play it, just like a lot of other people, who understand whats happening but I'm sure Valve are terribly sorry for inconveniencing you, but please, get over it.

The fact that it's free to download this weekend only means everyone who doesn't already own it, now does. Probably doubling the server struggle.

The fact that you've bought it just means, as soon as there's a gap in the server-rush you'll get a spot. You don't have to pay twice, you wont loose any saved games and everything's there waiting for you. Just be patient.
