Steam Return Policy

What is the Steam return/refund policy? I bought a game that I have not installed, have not even downloaded. Can I get a refund or "store credit"? Does this apply to game packs? TNX

In most cases no.

Was the game released yet? If so, no...

If it was a preorder and the game wasn't released yet, maybe.

Steam does not offer refunds with the exception of pre-orders before the release date.

Despite what the support site states, refunds are handled on a case by case basis. Contact support and explain the situation. They may give a refund if you're polite.

The only problem i've had is I bought my kids UT3(on steam of coure) and the cdkey was invalid. I contacted both epic and steam support and never could resolve the problem so the game sits dead on his hard drive. They offered no refund and honestly not much help.

Try entering the key in both upper and lower case and setting the keyfile (if UT3 has one) to read-only.

If both cases don't work, then you really need to keep pressing at Steam support to issue you a new key.

Aside from pre-orders, they won't hand out a refund just because someone doesn't want the game anymore.
Since the OP never even tried the game, the odds of him getting one are nil to nil.
Valve would only hand out a refund if the game was not working & both sides of support (Steam support and the 3rd party support) were both exhausted & the game still does not work.

nil to nil is undefined. does that mean that my odds are undefined? I still have a chance.

if you just simply do not want the game anymore, the odds of you getting a refund are next to zero aka nil to nil.

I know what you meant, it's just that nil to nil, 0:0 or 0/0, is mathematically undefined... err indeterminate, so I find it interesting that such an expression is in use. That is all.

in the agreement it IS writtent ha you cna only get refound for pre.purchases of games that arent out yet.

its a law if the said service says it has a refound system, if it doesnt yelling at them will close the small window you have to get an exptional refound, like if the game had too many bugs and it wasnt playable for most of the player base

Trying to be polite never hurts. Funny eh ?

The people over at support only work there for a living, they did not make the game, the system or the rules. What do you think works best; getting angry at someone who is being paid to help you, or calmly explaining the situation and look for a solution together ?

I'm not saying you're supposed to let them walk over you, just don't be the first party to start. (good example: i told one support guy to escalate my case to someone who knew what the F he was talking about and to go and find a job at a grocery store since he kept telling me that disabling the wifi would disable the NAT/router function on their crappy all-in-one modems, all while telling me that I was the idiot who didn't know anything about it)
