Yes I agree and because it is obvious and it makes it even more clear Nasty was not only bashing on steam but also thumbing his nose at steam clients and for what reason?

I want to play MY game that I just bloody well bought.

Once again Steam lack the foresight to obtain cd keys when sales are on. This is the 5th time... it's absolutely ridiculous.

Now I will have to wait a week before I can play.

I agree Pikey I want to play my game as well but I understand that the folks at Valve are only human and will make mistakes. I forgive you valve but please fix this quickly.

As a side note on Steam support:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...2204-OPGC-4862

Under "Possible causes" they neglect to say that it might be their incompetance in acquiring cd keys but rather seem blame the user.

Maybe they should fix this.

I think Nasty's post is valid because it shows that Steam has dropped the ball (apparently again). If enough people find this unacceptable and decide to buy games outside of Steam then Steam will have to either fix the problem or communicate with their users in some way. I am in the same boat as everyone else and getting this error. The least Steam could do is let us know of the issue and give us an estimate of when it could be resolved...its basic customer service but I find that in a lot of cases Steam has no concept of customer service. The fact that Steam has that knowledge base article that an earlier user posted is rediculous because they expect users to go through all that troubleshooting when they really only have to let us know about the issue. Talk about wasting people's time!

I will wait like everyone else for the key but I won't be happy about the fact that Steam leaves the community guessing...

Having the same problem. It's total bull. The beauty of Steam is it's supposed to resolve garbage like this. EA can royally jarate me off with their DRM nonsense. They're punishing the people who paid for their game. If I really wanted to get it for free, there are other much easier ways than copying from a friend. I love EA's developers to death (Criterion, Bioware, Maxis, etc.), but if they want to keep customers, they need to do them right and trust them. I know a lot of people who would pirate the game without a second thought. If you're going out of your way to pay for the game, you must have good intentions, right?

It's so ing stupid.

Same issue

Hey guys,

Just wanted to confirm I too am having an issue getting the cd key or playing Mass Effect. Still getting the "Failed to contact key server" message.

I was trying to view the key so I could download the Bring Down the Sky DLC cuz it's free with your CD Key!

Still no keys?

Hopefully we'll get an official statement from somebody at Valve tomorrow on what's going on.

I get 'Failed to contact key server' if I try to play the game AND when I click 'View game CD key'. I would suggest writing the key down and then go to the link below where some people have had some success.
