Pathlogic?

Gah, I hate writing this, as I know it has nothing to do with this forum, beside the fact it was an older game made by you guys.

So, is there any chance whatsoever that we may one day also see Pathlogic on Steam? I got The Void way back when it released, and loved it so much I decided to check out your previous game, and found I really enjoyed that one to.

I know it wasn't the best translated game, but other then that, is there any other major reasons why you guys don't want to put it on Steam? The only thing I can think of is you don't want a ton of people to buy it and think badly of the studio as a whole, but in the long run, wouldn't it be best to just put everything up?

I guess I'm just bothered because its up on D2D but not Steam, and I prefer Steam for pretty much everything. And because I just don't understand all the backroom stuff that needs to be done before games can be brought on to Steam, as a few other games I would pay for are still not on Steam ( and probably never will be, why is it so hard for NWN1/2 + Expacks, BG1/2 + ToB, Ps:T, and KotOR2 to be put on Steam, all the people who own the rights and licenses have Steam catalogs already dangit! )

The publisher for The Void is bitComposer Games and for Pathologic it's Buka.

There are multiple reasons why games are not on Steam and are being sold everywhere else. Very first one is: money - Valve is asking too much shares so Buka didn't make a deal with them.

There is no reason why to prefer Steam over other digital distributions (like mentioned D2D or GamersGate) in this case. All have unlimited download, game doesn't use Steamworks, will not be updated, you can still add the game to Steam as a non-Steam game...

I just like having everything nice and neat in my Steam library honestly, as I'm constantly switching computers, or being forced to reformat for work, so having something that I can just set to download anywhere, and will get me at least one or two smaller games quickly is a lifesaver.

If I buy it from D2D, will I be able to put it on a disc? And if so, will it require any programs to install from, or is it just the base game. I bought a couple games from GamersGate ( I think ) ages ago because they were on sale, and now when I try to install them from the disc, it tells me whatever program that site used for installing this stuff doesn't work with Win7, so I'm kind of wary of those sites and just how long their games will last me, with Steam they constantly seem to be self updating games to make them work with newer systems. ( Spellforce and Beyond Good and Evil being the best examples for me. )

I suppose when it boils down to it, I don't really have much choice though do I?

Well, you can download that game from D2D and Gamersgate from anywhere anytime too.

D2D has classic installer, if there is no DRM (it's not mentioned on game's page) then you don't even need internet connection to install the game (and you can choose where to install it - such a basic feature )

Gamersgate downloader/installer probably just needs an update for new OS (just like Steam did). It's DRM free - no need to be dependent on some program.

Steam doesn't give a about games working on newest systems. They use what publishers get them - therefore not every game on Steam is up-to date and usually you can't use normal patch for Steam version. If you want a working old game on newer OSs, then go to GOG.com

Oddly, I've had a totally different experience with Steam.

Two of my games are technically not supposed to work with Win7, Beyond Good and Evil, and Spellforce 2, and my disc versions will not work at all, no matter what I try, I just can't get them to work.

The Steam versions however work fine, and I occasionally get little updates to Beyond Good and Evil to try and fix up the numerous problems it has with Win7, and I don't think they are coming from the devs, as they stopped making patches a long time ago, so I assumed it was Steam.

As for GOG, that was my first thought after seeing it wasn't on Steam, as I own a few games through GOG, sadly though, they don't have Pathlogic either, which is an extra shame as they would have probably did some work on extra translations, as I think they have a few Russians on their team. Oh well, D2D it is then.

Steam never patches 3rd party games. Those patches came from dev team or they used version from GOG.com.

Yes, I hope we'll see it on Steam one day.
