Game won't start

I'm having a similar problem to the ones i've read about on the forums but i haven't been able to fix it. The game won't start. I can see the process for a few seconds before it closes. I've tried installing the files in the directory and changing the audio format. I cant change the sound hardware acceleration in win7 home though. Thankfully the game was pretty cheap at the time but i would still love to play it.

i did yeah. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam atm.
