Exclamation Beta Patch 1.55/Fix for widescreen crash

If you'd like to try the v1.55 beta patch for Uplink (current Steam version is v1.54). Do the following:

-Shut down Steam
-Click on Start, then Run
-Type out your steam path, in quotes, followed by "-beta uplink0323"

EXAMPLES:
32-bit Steam, installed to default directory in C: drive:
Quote:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -beta uplink0323
64-bit Steam, installed to default directory in C: drive:
Quote:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -beta uplink0323
This will restart Steam and begin downloading the beta patch. This fixes the widescreen bug that prevents people from playing the game (at least it did for me).

They seem to edit the first post every time they release a new beta. The beta patch is probably much newer than the thread implies.

EDIT: The post announcing the 1.55 beta is from Saturday, March 24, 2007.

Still, that's just over three years and they haven't applied it through Steam yet.

Total BS that I have to go digging through threads to fix a problem this old.

BTW that didn't fix anything. Running steam as admin did. (W7 x64)

Worked fine for me thanks!

Wish I could play version 1.55 without this workaround though. I wonder why Steam doesn't apply this by default.

Hopefully a mod will notify this and reply someday?

I was having the same problem with running Uplink on my widescreen laptop. I tried so many things that I don't really remember exactly but I believe I started steam with the beta line. Then I looked here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...1040-JWMT-2947
and set the game to open in windowed mode (-windowed).
This allowed me to open the game and it ran fine, although is was fullscreen....... not sure why......
Hope this helps

and in windows 7 it's not in the start menu* - use(windows key) + R.

*"The search box that appears on the Start menu provides much of the same functionality as the Run command." Except that it doesn't.
