Wacky Graphics Glitch

http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/r...9-19-02-59.jpg

I changed the shadows option up a little and then this happened. Now no matter what I do I can't get it back to normal. Please help me.

Oh come on people help me out. This crap is bloody annoying and I just wanna play this game.

http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/r...9-19-02-59.jpg

By the way it seems that when I'm out of the menu and actually playing that it slowly, SLOWLY starts to render some better and normal looking details, but for the most part things look blocky and just horrid.

You could try resetting all your settings, i.e. rename the folder that Arma II uses for your profile.

(1) Shutdown the game

(2) Rename the folder "C:\Users\(Your Windows Username)\Documents\ArmA 2"

(this is on Windows 7, it'll be something like "C:\Documents & Settings\(Your Windows Username)\My Documents\ArmA 2" on XP)

(3) Start the game - it'll recreate a new Arma II settings folder - hopefully without confused shader settings...

I've never seen this before. What are your specs? A whole bunch of things could be wrong on your end if this problem is isolated. Graphics card could be failing, memory failing, files corrupted, or your drivers installation is corrupted.

I can't find the "Documents & Settings" folder on my Windows 7.

Also here's another pic that should have been the one in the 2nd post, it gives you an idea of how f'd up the graphics are. Again this only started when I changed a shadow option. Now it's like this no matter what I do or change.

I've seen that to some times, it's just unloaded textures and meshes. Do not have it with AO, only with ArmA2.

It usually takes a couple of secs and then it all renders properly. I never made an issue about it, because I figured the graphic glitch is due to my standard graphics card. ArmA does not like standard hardware very much

How long should I give it before I say "f it it's not going to render"? And anyway I can make it do it's thing quicker so I don't feel like I'm on purple drank?

It will be in "C:\Users\(Your Windows Username)\Documents\ArmA 2" for Windows 7 (like I said).

If you also want to try a startup parameter as those graphics look like an unpatched Arma II bug, i.e. if the rename of settings step above doesn't work then:

(1) Click on the game in your steam lists

(2) Right mouse button on 'Properties' (at the bottom)

(3) Choose 'Set Launch Options..'

(4) add the text (not including quotes) "-winxp"

(5) Start the game

I think it's something like this but correct me if im wrong.

Right click your Arma icon, and where it says Start in: after it says ''C:// ect.../ect.../arma2 or OA'' type -maxmem---

replace the --- with what ever amount of numbers you want.

Switching to "run in -winxp" seems to have worked. Got one thing to say though is that the characters look pretty... statuesque. Maybe it's just because of the demo.

Also anyone know how to fix this somewhat delayed mouse travel? So I can make it more pinpoint to where I intended to look?

You're welcome.

The demo is pretty bad compared to the patched up games. In these patches there are control options to tune mouse lag that the demo doesn't have.

It has been discussed a fair bit here, but BIS leaving the old demo up on steam is probably costing them some sales, i.e. it's not really representative of the games today and creates a bad impressions IMHO. Business-wise it would have been better to pull the demo if resources are so tight as to not allow it to be updated.

aaah if you said you trying to run the demo i would suggest -winXP too

but it's not needed anymore for 99.9% users in fully patched game
