Bordlands Multiplayer problems

me and my friend bought this game for co-op etc

problem is, when i host a game he can join ( but lags since my pc isnt the best from the best )

but when he host i cannot connect

we both did the port forwording etc also we tried it with hamachi ( didnt work )

when we make a game with a middle person it goes smooth, but when i try to connect directly it doesnt work

need help :<

My first thought would be - don't beat me - your friend did the port forwarding wrong. Like TCP instead of UDP or the other way.
Are you able to check his configuration ?
I am not sure, perhaps just telnet the ports to see if they are open at all. If they are UDP or TCP... don't know how to find out. Can you go over and check it yourself ?
