Game Crashes during autosave
I'm about 30 hrs into a huge map and it seems like everytime it autosaves (or I manually save) it crashes to desktop. I only have 3 saved games in my folder and not sure whats going on. I've read some older threads about the problem but would like to see if there is any recent fixes.
I'm running windows 7 64 bit i7 6g memory 5870 ATI Corsair 1000w PSU Thanks for any help! |

Could just be that the game itself cannot manage that amount of detail, like how some older games could only allow a certain amount of sprites before it either crashed or removed sprites somewhere else.
It really shouldn't though. Have you tried patching it? |

Yeah, it's using the latest patch also it's venice
I hope it's not too much information for the game! Has to be an easy answer

I had a similar problem. I think it was caused by a road glitch on a hill, where you normally can't build them. I had to load an older save that didn't have the bugged road tile and then saving worked again.

There is nothing we can do about it till Ubisoft fixes it. Plus on the German side of the forum one guy posted. That he had talk to support about the memory and save game problems. They told him that they didn't find anything wrong with those problems. That was his problem and not their's. They said too that they did have enough info to fix that problem and felt that isn't a problem.

Yes, unless something is glitched like brokenguns25 suggested (as they can certainly cause crashes), it is likely a memory issue from the game's end. I have no idea how much memory it demands, have you checked if it uses up 4gb RAM? (There should be some programs out there that help monitoring this, and you can also try to play in windowed mode.) Also, try to do a clean install of the game or play it on another computer (or just copy the Save folder Under your Users/Anno 1404 in Win 7 to another computer) and run Venice without patches.

It doesn't matter how much memory you have the computer will still crash. I have 9gbs of memory and mine still will crash. I'm only get CTD and not the savegame crashes. I install the 4gb patch that Odemit said to do and I have not had a savegame crash. Here is the link to the thread.

All games install into your Programs Files (x86). There is only one game that ever loaded into the 64bit file and that was Hellgate London. Yes the game is running on your 64bit machine but it runs out of the 32bit environment. I have not had one savegames crash since I installed that patch. That has been almost a month now.
Plus this lady runs this game day in & day out with this: "(My non-gaming gaming system: 3GHz CPU, 1024MB RAM, GeForce 8400 video card with 512MB RAM, Windows XP SP3, DirectX 9)" It is a Win7 thing. I can run it on Vista 64bit side of my computer with no crashes at all. Most people try to run all they games at the highest settings. I don't and I run them at what I feel that the game will best run at without crashing. This My Computer: GA-X58A-UD3R Intel Core i7 Q930 - 2.80GHz LGA 1366 G.SKILL 9GB(3x2gb)(3x1gb)(PC3 12800)Triple Channel 1-ATI HD 4870 2Gb - SILVERSTONE 700W - Win7-64 / Vista-64 - 32" LCD TV. Hookup DVI to HDMI. 1920x1080 Hard Drive(128gb SSD) |

I upgraded my stationary to Win 7 maybe a month or so ago and I've had no issues whatsoever playing both the original and Venice fully patched. Then again, I bought my games retail, so no Steam crap downloads. There was a thread somewhere that the Steam install sometimes didn't download all the files required to run the game, and this can be one explanation and why it worked for you after installing whatever patch that was.
So don't just blame Ubisoft, I think it is more likely a Steam problem than something Ubisoft caused. My gaming system is a 2.6ghz AMD X2 with 8800 GTS Geforce card and 4GB RAM, so I doubt it has anything to do with graphics or some such. However, I would not count out the fact that the game might try to load more than it can manage, which is not impsosible if you got a rediculously large game that you played for a long time. |

I installed that 4G patch and it seems to be alright for the most part, only crashing everyone once in a while

I had the problem with it crashing after every game save. I found a thread here or at the UBISoft forums that pointed me toward running it under DirectX 9 insteam of 10. I made that change and had no issues after that. I have since upgraded from a 9800gtx to a 470gtx and set it back to DirectX 10 and have had no issues.

This game is stupid when the autosave comes in, all you can do to help is change it to every 15 minutes rather than loose 30minutes work.
I've bought this game, contacted ubisoft for support, had to wait 7-9 days for each response, to be told stupid responses. Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall, yes, i wrote that, didnt you read what I had to say. People who illegally download and crack this game are the ones who don't suffer, we, the legit population, we suffer. Ubisoft, I'll never buy a title from you again, simply because your games are buggy, waste time when it fails to save and your support is useless... The next Ubisoft game I play will probably be.... ;-) |
