Steam Connection - NO CONNECTION

Hello. I have been searching for multiple answers to this, but I have not had any luck. Any help would be appreciated.

When I start up Steam, at the bottom of the screen it says "No Connection." I do not know what is going on. My internet connection is working perfectly. The only thing that I have done that would seem different is that I have also installed Steam on my laptop. But that wouldn't cause both Steam pages to say "No connection." Help?

steam is probably updating. its normal.

Or maybe a firewall is blocking steam?

I've been getting the same problem since the last update. It says no connection, and when I click my Friends list, it displays the following:

No network connection can be made to the Steam servers. Steam will automatically retry till a connection is available.

It does this randomly, sometimes it won't do that, but its been doing that a lot more than usual lately. Even download speeds (for Alien Swarm) were less than amazing, though I'm guessing that was because of congestion on the servers for downloading the game.

I just noticed this as well, started about a half an hour ago. Will wait for Portal and HL2 to finish updating/downloading (although I never clicked on these) to see what's up.

Steam is hitting it pretty hard. The ole lady is come undone!

it probably your firewall. ive had that problem before and it was my firewall, if not, just restart your computer, maybe your computer needs to update

Steam's been all jacked up for a couple hours now it seems. I think Valve's too busy watching reruns of the Chappelle Show to fix it.

Oh well, Futurama's next anyway, screw it.

im having this prob as well - sometimes it says @no connection@ and other times it just takes an age to get a connection, and thats when i have nothing else running and this is only since alien swarm came out and then the 1-2 updates

thier prob looking into it but id thought id add my voice

Yesterday my Steam was disconnecting and connecting Friends, I could not play TF2 or L4D2, anything that needs Steam online.

Yea i can play steam games in single player but cant play any valve games online including GMod. Ever sense this last steam update. Getting really tired of all these updates, valve made the BIG mistake with that source engine update, bad idea..........
